SY iron-on hemming strip makes it easy to
shorten curtains to the right length for your
windows.
1. Measure how long you want your
curtains to be.
2. Add a few centimetres to allow for
any shrinkage in the wash. The exact
amount of shrinkage is shown on the
package. For example, if you want your
curtains to be 2 metres long and the
shrinkage is 4%, calculate as follows 2
m x 1.04 = 2.08 m. In other words you
need to allow an extra 8 cm.
3. Lay the curtain with the reverse side
facing upwards. Fold up the hem (but
don't put the hemming strip in place
yet!) and iron the fold.
4. Now place the hemming strip inside the
fold. Cover the fold with a damp cloth.
5. Iron with a pressing action until the
fabric is dry. Repeat on the entire fold.
6. Allow to cool before checking. Then
cut away any unwanted fabric and the
curtain is ready!
For heavier fabrics, lay two hemming strips
side by side for stronger bond.
If the hemming strip comes loose in the
wash, simply iron it back in place again
using the same method as above.
