77. SPELLING THE CARDS
Spell out the name of each card in a suit by taking one card off the top of the deck and putting it on the
bottom for each letter in the name. Then turn over the next card to magically reveal the card whose name
you spelled out!
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Deck of playing cards
THE SECRET: You use thirteen cards arranged in a certain order.
SECRET SETUP: Arrange thirteen cards of any suit in the following order from top down: 3, 8, 7, Ace,
Queen, 6, 4, 2, Jack, King, 10, 9, and 5.
SHOW:
1. Say, “I’m going to spell out the name of each card in a suit. Watch what happens!”
2. Begin to spell “Ace” by passing one card from the top to the bottom of the pile for each letter. Turn up
the fourth card which will be the Ace. Put the card down on the table.
3. Continue spelling “two”, “three”, “four”, “five”, “six”, “seven”, “eight”, “nine”, “ten”, “Jack”, “Queen”,
and the final card left will be the “King”. Each time you say a letter move the top card to the bottom of the
pile. When you turn over a card to reveal the one you spelled out, put the card down on the table. This is a
very effective card trick!
78. NAMING THE CARDS
You’re always able to name the top card without having seen it!
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Deck of playing cards
THE SECRET: Before putting the cards behind your back, you look at the bottom card. When they are
behind your back, turn over the top card. Show your audience the bottom card making them think it is
really the top of the deck. Keep the top card facing you so that you know what card it is. Then, when the
deck is behind your back again, move the top card face-up to the bottom of the deck turning over a new
top card and repeating the procedure.
SHOW:
1. Say, “I’m going to tell you the top card on the deck without even seeing the card.
2. Glance at the bottom card on the deck as you put the deck behind your back. Then quickly turn over the
top card.
3. Bring the deck from behind your back making sure that the bottom card is facing the audience. Name
the card they are seeing. Don’t let them see the other end of the deck which will be facing you, but glance
at the card.
4. Put the deck behind your back again. Move the top card which you just saw so that it’s face-up on the
bottom of the deck. Turn over the next top card.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 as long as the audience’s interest holds!
79. FIND A CARD IN A BORROWED DECK
Have a volunteer pick a card and add it back into the deck. Then tell them to cut the deck. Now you run
through the deck and find the selected card!
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Deck of playing cards
SHOW:
1. Before starting the trick, secretly look at the card on the bottom of the deck.
2. Have a volunteer select any card they like from a deck of cards, look at it, and lay it on top of the deck.
Then have them cut the deck once.
3. When they cut the deck, they will automatically lay that bottom card on top of the selected card. All you
have to do is to find the card that was originally on the bottom, and name the card before it. That is their
selected card!
