68. STOP-N-GO
When the audience says stop you are automatically at the preselected card.
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Deck of playing cards with Joker Locator Card (see Joker Card Locator Trick,
page 37)
THE SECRET: The Joker Locator Card stops at the preselected card, just like in the Joker Card Locator
Trick, and you control the speed of the ruffling so it appears to stop when your audience says so.
SHOW:
1. Before you begin, secretly insert the Joker in the middle of the deck, make a mental note of the card
that appears before it.
2. Hold the cards in your hand so that the backs are facing you. Ruffle the cards from front to back...pick
someone in the audience to tell you when to stop. By controlling the speed of the ruffle, you can make it
happen at the Locator Card. When they say stop, call out and remove the card you memorized in Step 1.
They’ll be in awe!
69. LONG DISTANCE TELEPATHY
A volunteer picks a card from the deck. You call the “Wizard” on the telephone, and he tells the person the
chosen card!
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Deck of playing cards, phone
THE SECRET: When your assistant for this trick answers the telephone, you say, “Hello, is the Wizard
there?” This cue line tells your assistant that you are performing the Long Distance Telepathy trick.
The assistant immediately begins to name cards starting with Ace, King, Queen, Jack, etc. When he gets
to the proper card you interrupt by saying, “Hello, Mr. Wizard!” Next, the assistant slowly starts to name
suits, Hearts..., Spades..., Diamonds..., Clubs. When the “Wizard” gets to the proper suit, you say, “Just a
minute.” Hand the telephone to the person who selected the card. The “Wizard” names the card (e.g. “Ten
of Hearts”) and then hangs up.
SECRET SETUP: Teach this trick to several friends that you could call on the telephone. The cue that you
are doing the trick is “Hello, is the Wizard there?” When you do the trick, make sure that you hold the
phone tightly to your ear so that no one in the room can hear the conversation on the other end of the line.
SHOW:
1. Spread the deck of cards facedown on the table. Ask a volunteer to put a finger on one card and slide
it out of the deck without looking at it. Without being observed, read the back of the card as the volunteer
pulls it out of the deck.
2. Explain that you will call the “Wizard” on the phone, and he will be able to name the chosen card. Then
give the “Wizard” a call!
70. MAGIC CARD SHUFFLE
A card placed in the center of the deck magically travels to the top.
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Deck of playing cards
THE SECRET: You secretly place a Nine and Eight of Clubs on top of the deck,
but when you pick up the top card to show the audience you really pick up
both cards, showing only the Nine. When you take the top card and place it
in the middle of the deck, you are really placing the Eight in the center of the
deck. The Nine remains on top.
SECRET SETUP: Place a Nine and an Eight of Clubs on top of the deck.
SHOW:
1. Pick up the two top cards, concealing the fact that there are two of them. Show the audience the Nine of
Clubs. Say, “Watch what happens to this top card.”
2. Put the cards back down on top of the deck. Take the top card (the Eight of Clubs) and put it in the
center of the deck. Your audience will think you placed the Nine there.
3. Shuffle the deck with a snappy movement. See FIGURE 1. Remove the top card for inspection. Your
audience will be amazed that the Nine of Clubs has traveled from the center to the top of the deck.
