52. BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Two chosen cards side-by-side in the deck are placed back in different places separate from each other,
but they are mysteriously reunited!
PROPS USED: Mystery Deck
THE SECRET: The two chosen cards ore “stripped out” of the deck and put together again somewhere in
the deck.
SHOW:
1. Start with the narrow ends of the deck furthest from you. Have a volunteer select two cards that are
together in the deck and show them to the audience but not to you. Turn the deck so that the narrow ends
are now closest to you. Have the volunteer return the cards to the deck but in separate places.
2. Overhand shuffle the deck. Cut the cards by “stripping out” the chosen cards and bringing them to the
top of the deck. Give the deck a second cut to bring the chosen cards somewhere near the center of the
deck.
3. Hand the deck to the volunteer and ask him to name the chosen cards. After he answers, say, “I want
those two cards to rejoin each other.”
4. Have the volunteer fan out the deck on the table for the audience to see. Mysteriously, the two cards are
back together again!
53. CUT TO THE ACES
Mysteriously, cut to all the aces!
PROPS USED: Mystery Deck
THE SECRET: The aces were placed in the opposite direction from the rest of the cards in the deck so you
cut at each of the protruding edges of the four cards.
SECRET SETUP: Remove the aces from the deck. Turn them in the opposite direction from the rest of the
cards in the deck and put them back in separate places. Overhand shuffle the deck to further distribute the
aces in the deck.
SHOW:
1. Fan out the cards to show that they are thoroughly mixed.
2. Place the deck on the table. Run your thumb and fingers lightly over the sides of the deck until you feel
the protruding edge of one of the aces. Lift off this card and all the cards above it in a cutting motion. Turn
the entire pile face up revealing the ace.
3. Remove the ace and place it on the table. Turn the pile face down again and put it on top of the rest of
the deck.
4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until all of the aces have been located!
54. THE LONE CARD
A card is selected and shuffled back into the deck. The selected card is named and all the cards in the
deck fall from the magician’s hand except for the chosen one.
PROPS USED: Mystery Deck
THE SECRET: The selected card is placed in the opposite direction of the rest of the deck allowing the card
to be easily held by its edges when the rest of the cards fall from the magician’s hand.
SHOW:
1. Hold the deck with the narrow ends toward the audience. Have a volunteer select a card from the deck.
2. Secretly turn the deck and then slide in the selected card.
3. Overhand shuffle the deck. Place the deck in your right hand with the backs to the audience.
4. Ask the volunteer to name the selected card. Release the pressure on the edges of the cards allowing all
but the “stripped” card to fall.
5. Show the remaining card to the audience.
