1. Start with the narrow ends of the deck furthest away from you. Remove the aces from the deck. Put
them back again in the opposite direction from the other cards and in different places in the deck. Have
someone overhand shuffle cards.
2. Take the deck and turn it so that the narrow ends are now closest to you. With the thumb and fingers
of each hand, grasp the cards by the edges and “strip out” the aces. Bring them to the top of the deck as
though you were cutting the cards.
3. If you don’t get all the aces on the first cut, run your fingers over them until you do. The audience will
think that you are simply cutting the cards.
4. Say, “Watch me make the aces come to the top of the deck.” Tap the deck four times. Turn over top four
cards and show the audience the aces!
41. CARD THROUGH A HANDKERCHIEF
Make a card vanish from a deck and reappear under a hankerchief!
PROPS USED: Mystery Deck
THE SECRET: While the deck is under the handkerchief, you “strip out” the chosen card. You bring out the
deck from under the handkerchief but leave the chosen card under it.
SHOW:
1. Start with the narrow ends of the deck furthest away from you. Have a volunteer select a card and show
it to the audience but not to you. Turn the deck so that the narrow ends are now closest to you. Have the
volunteer return the card to the deck. Overhand shuffle the deck.
2. Hold the deck face down. The fingers of both hands should be on one side of the deck and the thumbs
on the other. Have a volunteer place the handkerchief over the deck and your hands.
3. “Strip out” the chosen card and drop it on the table under handkerchief. Say, “Maybe I should keep
the deck in sight at all times.” Take the deck out from under the handkerchief and place it on top of the
handkerchief over the chosen card.
4. Say, ‘’I’ll make the chosen card pass through the deck and handkerchief onto the table.” Remove the
handkerchief and reveal the chosen card!
42. TRY YOUR LUCK
A chosen card put back in the deck magically appears when you cut the deck!
PROPS USED: Mystery Deck
THE SECRET: Because the chosen card sticks out, you hold onto it as you cut the deck at that point.
SHOW:
1. Start with the narrow ends of the deck furthest from you. Have a volunteer select a card. Turn the deck
so that the narrow ends are now closest to you. Have the volunteer return the card to the deck. Overhand
shuffle the deck.
2. Cut the cards, “stripping out” the chosen card and bringing it to the top. Place the cards on the table and
ask the volunteer to try cutting to his card.
3. After the attempt, pick up the cards and overhand shuffle them bringing the chosen card somewhere
near the deck’s center.
4. Put the deck on the table. Run your thumb and fingers along the sides of the pack until you touch the
projecting edges of the chosen card. Lift off this card and all the cards above it in a cutting motion.
5. Hold the cut-off portion face down. Ask the volunteer to name his card. Turn the cut-off portion face up
to reveal the chosen card!
43. FACE UP/ FACE DOWN MAGIC
A pile of face up cards are shuffled into a deck and magically returned to a separate pile again!
PROPS USED: Mystery Deck
THE SECRET: The face up cards are placed in the opposite direction from the rest of the cards in the deck
so that they are easy to “strip out” and bring to top.
