35. APPEARING MAGIC HAT
Show there is nothing on either side of the handkerchief, but then the magic hat appears from nowhere!
PROPS USED: Magic Hat
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Jacket, large handkerchief or cloth
THE SECRET: The magic hat is hidden in your jacket. When you show the back side of the handkerchief,
your fingers reach into your jacket and pull out the magic hat.
SECRET SETUP:
1. Wear a jacket.
2. Place the handkerchief into your pocket.
3. Flatten the magic hat and place inside your jacket. Keep your arm against your side to hold the hat in
place. See FIGURE 1.
TIP: This trick takes practice. Practice in front of a mirror for the best results.
SHOW:
1. Remove the handkerchief from your pocket. Hold the handkerchief by the corners in front of you.

2. Turn the handkerchief and show the back side by crossing your arms. The arm holding the hat will cross
underneath the other arm. See FIGURE 3.
3. Bring the handkerchief back to the original position. See FIGURE 4. Show the back side again. This time
the arm holding the hat will cross over the other arm. This will bring the hand on the other arm near the
opening of the jacket. Using the handkerchief as a shield from the audience, grasp the magic hat with your
fingers. See FIGURE 5.
4. As you bring the handkerchief back to the original position, remove the magic hat from your jacket,
keeping it shielded with the handkerchief. Once removed and completely behind the handkerchief, take
away the handkerchief to reveal the magic hat. See FIGURE 6.

36. TRAVELING HANDKERCHIEF
Make a handkerchief disappear from your hand, then pull it out from your empty magic hat!
PROPS USED: Magic Hat, Handkerchief Vanisher
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Jacket, safety pin, 2 identical handkerchiefs
THE SECRET: You have two identical handkerchiefs. The second handkerchief is hidden in the secret
compartment inside the magic hat. You make the first handkerchief disappear using the secret Handker-
chief Vanisher, then you reach into the hat and pull out the second handkerchief. It looks like the same one!
SECRET SETUP:
1. Assemble and attach the vanisher to your jacket as in the Handkerchief Vanisher trick (page 17).
2. Slide one of your handkerchiefs into the secret compartment in the magic hat. See FIGURE 2.
