ADDITIONAL TRICKS
THE RISING RING
EFFECT: A ring magically dees gravity and travels
up a rubber band.
SUPPLIES: A thin rubber band* and a nger ring*
or key ring.*
SECRET: Grab the middle of the rubber band with
your right hand’s thumb and rst nger. Thread the
ring onto the rubber band and then grab the other
end with your left thumb and rst nger. Hide the
extra part of the rubber band in the st of your right
hand. The ring should be near your right hand and
your right hand should be slightly lower than your
left. Pull the rubber band as tight as it can go. To
make the ring move UP the rubber band, all you need
to do is slowly release the pressure in between your
left thumb and rst nger. This will loosen the rubber
band and make it look like the ring is traveling across!
CUT & RESTORED NEWSPAPER
EFFECT: A strip of newspaper is cut in half but magi-
cally restores itself!
SUPPLIES: A sheet of newspaper*, a pair of scis-
sors*, rubber cement*, and baby powder. *
SECRET: This one will take some preparation. Before
the performance, cut a strip of newspaper about 3
inches wide and 2 feet long (or however long the
paper normally is.) Now, take the strip and fold it
in the middle. Unfold the strip and use the rubber
cement to coat the middle of the strip. Coat an area
about four inches each way from the middle (about
8 inches total.) Only coat one side! Let this dry and
then shake the baby powder over the area. Make sure
the whole area is covered with a light layer of powder
and then blow o any excess. Now you’re ready to
perform! Show the strip to your audience and then
fold it in half, so that the rubber cement side is INSIDE
the fold. Take the scissors and carefully cut across
the top of the fold. Make sure your cut is absolutely
straight. (The rubber cement inside the fold will now
lightly glue the edges of the cut pieces together!)
Hold one of the strips at the bottom and bring it up to
unfold the paper to show that the newspaper is
fully restored! Be careful because the two strips are
only lightly held together. You can even cut the paper
again if youd like, as long as you think there’s still
some area with rubber cement.
THE MAGNETIC PENCIL
EFFECT: Hold a pencil in your st. With the other
hand, grab your wrist. Slowly, open your ngers and
the pencil magically sticks to the palm of your hand!
SUPPLIES: A pencil*
SECRET: To perform this trick hold the pencil in your
right st, with the back of your st facing your audi-
ence. Take your left hand and grab your right wrist.
As you grab your wrist, let your left rst nger stick
out into your right palm. Now, you can use your left
rst nger to hold the pencil against your right palm.
Slowly open the ngers of your right hand to show
that the pencil is magnetized to your hand!
THE BALANCING GLASS
EFFECT: The magician takes a glass or bottle and
magically balances it on the edge of a plate!
SUPPLIES: A drinking glass (preferably plastic!) or
a bottle.
SECRET: This is any easy trick to perform, as all you
need are a glass and a plate. Hold the plate with your
right hand, at the one” spot as if it were a clock. Hold
the plate with your right ngers facing your audience
and your thumb on the back of the plate. Take the
glass and carefully let it sit on the top of the plate, on
the edge at the “twelve spot. Use your right thumb
to steady the glass so that it won’t fall. You can now
remove your left hand from the glass and it’ll look like
the glass is balanced on the edge of the plate!
