BOTTLE ANd GLASS SWITCH – A -ROO
BOTTLE AND GLASS SWITCH-A-ROO
SETUP: To prepare the bottles, place the labels so
that the holes are in the back. Make sure both labels
are lined up the same way on both bottles. Notice
that one of the bottles is slightly smaller than the
other one. The holes in the back of the bottles are
there so that you can hide a glass inside but still pick
up the bottle using your thumb to keep the glass
inside.
Place the small bottle inside of the big bottle (labels
facing the same way). Now place both bottles over
one of the glasses. The glasses can both be empty,
full of water, or upside down. Just be sure both
glasses are the same. Place the second glass next to
the bottles/glass (see FIGURE 1).
SHOW: Now you are ready to begin. To perform,
start by showing the two empty tubes. Mention that
both tubes are able to t over the bottle. As you
demonstrate,
place the tube in
your left hand
over the bottle.
When you lift it
back up, use your
rst two ngers to
lift the big bottle
up with it. The bottle is now hidden in the tube. Be
sure not to tilt the tube so that no one sees it inside.
Now place the tube (and hidden bottle) over the glass
on the left. Take the tube in your right hand and place
It over the bottle on the right. You now have both a
bottle and a glass in each tube. Now the fun starts!
Using your rst and second nger, lift the left tube to
show the glass (see FIGURE 2). Place your rst and
second nger in the right tube and lift it, but DO NOT
lift the bottle. Explain that the bottle and the glass
will switch places.
Cover both the glass and the bottle and then wave
your hands in a magical gesture. Tell your audience
that the glass and bottle have switched places! They
won’t believe you, so oer to do it again!
2
Wave your hands
over the tubes
again. Now lift
the left tube (with
the hidden bottle)
and the right
tube to show
that the bottle
and glass are
now back in their
original places! Your audience will groan, so oer to
do again, but for real!
Wave your hands over the tubes and make a magical
gesture. Now, place your left rst two ngers into
the left tube and lift it up to show the bottle. Place
your right rst two ngers into the right tube and
use them to lift the tube and the bottle, showing the
glass. It will now look like the bottle and glass magi-
cally switched places!
Place the tubes (and hidden bottle) back down over
the bottle and glass. Wave your hands one nal time
and now tell your audience that they have switched
back. To prove it, lift the left tube (and the bottle)
and lift the right tube (leaving the bottle). Now it
looks like they are back to normal.
To nish, place the left tube (with the bigger bottle
still hidden inside) over the right bottle. Place the
right tube (Empty) over the glass on the left. You can
now lift the two tubes up one more time and show
them completely empty.
