Solving Common Problems
The application displays a
message indicating that a
“live fiber error” occurred.
Light has been detected on
the OTDR port during the
acquisition or while you
were monitoring a fiber in
real-time mode.
Disconnect the fiber from the
OTDR port. Press OK to close
the message.
Start another acquisition
without any fiber connected
to the OTDR. The message
about live fiber error should
not appear and the OTDR
trace should look “normal”.
If you still see the message
about live fiber error even if
no fiber is connected to the
OTDR, contact IDEAL.
Never connect a live fiber to
the OTDR port. Any incoming
signal greater than –40 dBm
will affect the OTDR
acquisition. Any incoming
signal greater than –20 dBm
could damage your OTDR
permanently.
