PPPoE Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. Most broadband
connections are Ethernet.
PPPoE enables ADSL users to be authenticated by their
ISP. Ethernet enables ISPs to provide multiple services
over multiple PPP sessions such as broadband specific
content, metered services and rated services.
PPPoA Point-to-Point Protocol over ATM. This is a network
protocol for encapsulating PPP frames in ATM AAL5. It
is used mainly with ADSL services and is compliant with
RFC2364. PPP over ATM adaptation layer 5 (AAL5) -
PPPoA uses AAL5 as the framed protocol, which
supports both PVC and SVC. The MC2+ encapsulates the
PPP sessions for transport across the ADSL network and
the DSLAM.
