Power supply. Provide disconnect means and
overload protection as required. Make sure
L1 and L2 are not reversed.
Remove jumper quick connect from ICM283.
Cut wire at circuit board and discard.
Alternate limit controller location.
Sensor rod will be present if remote sense.
Cut 3/16” quick connect off wire and replace
with a 1/4” quick connect (supplied).

with a 1/4” quick connect (supplied).
Cut 3/16” quick connect off wires and replace
with a 3/16” quick connect (supplied).

IMPORTANT:
1. Allwiringmustcomplywithapplicableelectricalcodesandordinances.
2. Hotsurfaceigniterleadwiresshouldnotbeallowedtorestagainstgroundedmetalsurfaces.
3. AcommongroundisrequiredfortheICM283andthemainburner.The24V(GND)terminal
internallygroundsonesideofthetransformer.Anyauxiliarycontrolsorlimitsmustnotbeinthe
groundedleg.Inaddition,theapplianceshouldbeearth-grounded.
4. MakesurethetransformerhasadequateVA.TheICM283 ignitionmodulerequires0.4Aat24
VAC.Addthecurrentdrawsofallotherdevicesinthecontrolcircuit,includingthepilotand

Installation Warnings
1. Read these instructions carefully.FailuretofollowtheseInstructionscoulddamagethemodule
orcauseahazardouscondition.Installermustbeatrained,qualiedservicetechniciancapableof
workingwithliquidpropane,naturalgasandhighvoltageelectricity.
2. VerifythattheICM283isthecorrectreplacementforthemoduleinyoursystem.
3. Never installwherewatercanood,driporcondenseonthemodule.Neveruseamodule
thathasbeenwet.Replaceit.Iftheignitionmodulegetswet,itcanmalfunction,leadingto
accumulationofexplosivegas.Donotattempttodisassembleorcleanthemodule.Improper
reassemblyandcleaningcancauseamalfunctionorunreliableoperation.Ifamodulemustbe
mountedwhereitcanbeexposedtomoistureorwater,provideasuitablewaterproofenclosure.it
isbesttomountthecontrolwiththeterminalsdowntoavoidwatergettingontomodule.
4. Disconnect the powersupplybeforebeginningwiringtopreventelectricalshockorequipment
damage.
5. Turn off the gas supplybeforestartingtheinstallation.Ifyousmellgasorsuspectagas
leak,turnoffgasatthemanualservicevalveandevacuatethebuilding.Donottrytolightany
appliance;donottouchanyelectricalswitchortelephoneinthebuildinguntilyouaresurenogas
remains.
6. Do not lightthepilotoroperateelectricswitches,lightsorappliancesuntilyouaresurethe
applianceareaisfreeofgas
7. Usingthewirelabelsprovided,labelallthewiresbeforedisconnecting.Wiringerrorscancause
improperapplianceoperation,ignitionmoduledamageanddangerousconditions(suchas
bypassingsafetyfeatures).
8. Improperlocationofthe120VAChotsurfaceigniteroranyamesensingrodcanresultin
appliancemalfunction.
9. Neverattempttorelocatethe120VAChotsurfaceigniterortheamesensingrodfromtheoriginal
positionestablishedbytheappliancemanufacturer.
10.Besurethe120VAChotsurfaceigniterortheamesensingrodisreplacedinexactlytheoriginal
positionafterremovalforinspection,serviceorreplacement.
Remove Old Module
Disconnectthepowersupplyandturnoffgasatshutoffvalvebeforedoinganyworkontheunit.
Disconnectandtagthewiresfromtheoldmoduleusingthewirelabelsprovided.Removetheold
modulefromitsmountinglocation.
ICM283 Mount Instructions
MounttheICM283Moduleinthesamelocationastheoldmodule.Protectthemodulefromexposure
towater,moisture,corrosivechemicalsandexcessivedustandgrease.Assurethatambient
temperatureatthemoduleiswithintherangelistedabove.
Mountthemodulewiththeterminalsdowntoprotectfromdrippingwateranddust.Themodulecan
alsobemountedwithterminalsoneitherside.Donotmountwiththeterminalspointingup.Whenit
isnecessarytodrillnewmountingholes,usetheICM283asatemplatetomarkthemountinghole
pattern.Drillnewholesasrequired.Usecautionwhiledrillingtoavoiddamagingwires,gaslines,
heatexchanger,etc.FastensecurelywithfourNo.6-32machineorNo.8sheetmetalscrews.
Set the Dip Switches
Youmustsetthedipswitchescorrectlytomatchyoursystem.SeeICM283CrossReferenceCharton
otherside.

5. CheckthatL1(hot)andL2(neutral)arewiredtotheproperterminals.
6. ConnectthewirestotheICM283IgnitionModuleasshown.Makesurethatthesystemis
adequatelygrounded.Whereachangeinquickconnectisrequired,cutofftheoriginalquick
connect,striptheleadwireandrmlycrimpinplacetheproperquick-connectsupplied.
Notes:If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, turn off gas at the manual service valve and evacuate
the building. Do not try to light any appliance; do not touch any electrical switch or telephone
in the building until you are sure no gas remains.
The Gas leak Test must be done for initial installation and any time work is done involving
the gas lines or equipment.
