Power supply. Provide disconnect means and
overload protection as required. Make sure
L1 and L2 are not reversed.
Remove jumper quick connect from ICM283.
Cut wire at circuit board and discard.
Alternate limit controller location.
Sensor rod will be present if remote sense.
Cut 3/16” quick connect off wire and replace
with a 1/4” quick connect (supplied).

wires (supplied).
When S89/S890 is a remote sense model,
remove jumper quick connect from ICM283.

Connect flame rod lead wire to SENSE.

Cut 3/16” quick connect off wires and replace
with a 1/4” quick connect (supplied).
Cut 3/16” quick connect off wires and replace
with a 3/16” quick connect (supplied).

IMPORTANT:
1. Allwiringmustcomplywithapplicableelectricalcodesandordinances.
2. Hotsurfaceigniterleadwiresshouldnotbeallowedtorestagainstgroundedmetalsurfaces.
3. AcommongroundisrequiredfortheICM283andthemainburner.The24V(GND)terminal
internallygroundsonesideofthetransformer.Anyauxiliarycontrolsorlimitsmustnotbeinthe
groundedleg.Inaddition,theapplianceshouldbeearth-grounded.
4. MakesurethetransformerhasadequateVA.TheICM283 ignitionmodulerequires0.4Aat24
VAC.Addthecurrentdrawsofallotherdevicesinthecontrolcircuit,includingthepilotand

Installation Warnings
1. Read these instructions carefully.FailuretofollowtheseInstructionscoulddamagethemodule
orcauseahazardouscondition.Installermustbeatrained,qualiedservicetechniciancapableof
workingwithliquidpropane,naturalgasandhighvoltageelectricity.
2. VerifythattheICM283isthecorrectreplacementforthemoduleinyoursystem.
3. Never installwherewatercanood,driporcondenseonthemodule.Neveruseamodule
thathasbeenwet.Replaceit.Iftheignitionmodulegetswet,itcanmalfunction,leadingto
accumulationofexplosivegas.Donotattempttodisassembleorcleanthemodule.Improper
reassemblyandcleaningcancauseamalfunctionorunreliableoperation.Ifamodulemustbe
mountedwhereitcanbeexposedtomoistureorwater,provideasuitablewaterproofenclosure.it
isbesttomountthecontrolwiththeterminalsdowntoavoidwatergettingontomodule.
4. Disconnect the powersupplybeforebeginningwiringtopreventelectricalshockorequipment
damage.
5. Turn off the gas supplybeforestartingtheinstallation.Ifyousmellgasorsuspectagas
leak,turnoffgasatthemanualservicevalveandevacuatethebuilding.Donottrytolightany
appliance;donottouchanyelectricalswitchortelephoneinthebuildinguntilyouaresurenogas
remains.
6. Do not lightthepilotoroperateelectricswitches,lightsorappliancesuntilyouaresurethe
applianceareaisfreeofgas
7. Usingthewirelabelsprovided,labelallthewiresbeforedisconnecting.Wiringerrorscancause
improperapplianceoperation,ignitionmoduledamageanddangerousconditions(suchas
bypassingsafetyfeatures).
8. Improperlocationofthe120VAChotsurfaceigniteroranyamesensingrodcanresultin
appliancemalfunction.
9. Neverattempttorelocatethe120VAChotsurfaceigniterortheamesensingrodfromtheoriginal
positionestablishedbytheappliancemanufacturer.
10.Besurethe120VAChotsurfaceigniterortheamesensingrodisreplacedinexactlytheoriginal
positionafterremovalforinspection,serviceorreplacement.
Remove Old Module
Disconnectthepowersupplyandturnoffgasatshutoffvalvebeforedoinganyworkontheunit.
Disconnectandtagthewiresfromtheoldmoduleusingthewirelabelsprovided.Removetheold
modulefromitsmountinglocation.
ICM283 Mount Instructions
MounttheICM283Moduleinthesamelocationastheoldmodule.Protectthemodulefromexposure
towater,moisture,corrosivechemicalsandexcessivedustandgrease.Assurethatambient
temperatureatthemoduleiswithintherangelistedabove.
Mountthemodulewiththeterminalsdowntoprotectfromdrippingwateranddust.Themodulecan
alsobemountedwithterminalsoneitherside.Donotmountwiththeterminalspointingup.Whenit
isnecessarytodrillnewmountingholes,usetheICM283asatemplatetomarkthemountinghole
pattern.Drillnewholesasrequired.Usecautionwhiledrillingtoavoiddamagingwires,gaslines,
heatexchanger,etc.FastensecurelywithfourNo.6-32machineorNo.8sheetmetalscrews.
Set the Dip Switches
Youmustsetthedipswitchescorrectlytomatchyoursystem.SeeICM283CrossReferenceCharton
otherside.

transformerVArating.UseaClassIItransformerwhenreplacementisrequired.
5. CheckthatL1(hot)andL2(neutral)arewiredtotheproperterminals.
6. ConnectthewirestotheICM283IgnitionModuleasshown.Makesurethatthesystemis
adequatelygrounded.Whereachangeinquickconnectisrequired,cutofftheoriginalquick
connect,striptheleadwireandrmlycrimpinplacetheproperquick-connectsupplied.
Notes:If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, turn off gas at the manual service valve and evacuate
the building. Do not try to light any appliance; do not touch any electrical switch or telephone
in the building until you are sure no gas remains.
The Gas leak Test must be done for initial installation and any time work is done involving
the gas lines or equipment.
