Chapter 9
For more informati on, see th e topic Connecting to the Repo sitory on p. 161.
Storing and Deploying Repository Objects
Streams created in IBM® SPSS ® Modeler can be stored in the repository just as they are, as les
with the extension .str. In this way, a single stream ca n be accessed by multiple users throughout
the enterpris e. For m ore information, see the topic Stori ng Objects in the Repository o n p. 16 4.
It is also possible to deploy a stream in the repository. A deployed stream is stored as a le with
additional metadata. A deployed stream can take full advantage of the ente r prise-lev el feat
ures
of IBM SPS S Collaboration and Deployment Services, such as automated scoring and model
refresh. For example, a mod el can be a utomatically update d at regularly-schedule d intervals
as new data becom es available. Alternatively, a set of streams can be deployed for Champion
Challenger analysis, in which streams are compared to d etermine which one contains th e most
effective predi ctive model.
You can deploy a s tream in one of two ways: as a stream (with the extension .str), or as a scenario
(with the extension .scn). Deployment as a stream enables the stream to be used by the thin-c lient
applicat ion IBM® SPSS® Modeler Advantage. For more information, see the topic Opening a
Stream in IBM SPSS Modeler Adv antage in Chapter 10 on p. 195. Deployment as a sce nario
enables the stream to be used by Predictive Applic ations vers ion 5, the predecessor of IBM
SPSS Mod eler Advantage.
For more info r mation, see S tream Deployment O ptions on p. 185.
Requirements for Streams Deployed as Scenarios
To ensure consistent acce ss to enterp r is e data, streams deploye d as scenarios must be accessed
through the Enterprise View component of IBM® SPSS® Collabor ation and Deployment
Services. This mean s that in SPSS Modeler, there must be at least one E nterprise View sour ce
node within each designated scoring or modeling branch in the stream.
To use the Enterprise View node, IBM SPSS Collaboration and Deployment Services
must be in stalled, congured and accessible from your site, with an Enterprise View,
Applica tion Views, and Data Provider Denitions (DPDs) already dened. For
more information, contact your lo cal administrator, or see the corporate website at
http://www.ibm.com/software/analytics/spss/products/deployment/cds/.
A DPD is dened against a particular ODBC data source. To use a DPD f r om SPSS Modeler,
you mus t have an ODBC data source dened on the SPSS Modeler server host that has the
same nam e and t hat connects to th e same data store as the o ne referenced in t he DPD.
In addition, the IBM® SPSS® Collaboration and Deployment Services Enterprise View
Driver must be installed on each computer used to modify or r un the stream. For Windows,
simply install the driver on the computer where SPSS Modeler or SPSS Modeler Ser ver is
installe d, and no further conguration of th e driver is needed. On UNIX, a reference to th e
pev.sh script must be added to th e startup scri pt. C ontact your local administra tor for details
on installing the IBM SPSS Collaboration and Deployment Services En terprise Vi ew Driver.
