Chapter9.RemovingandreplacingaFRU
ThischapterpresentsdirectionsanddrawingsforuseinremovingandreplacingaFRU.Besuretoobserve
thefollowinggeneralrules:
1.Donottrytoserviceanycomputerunlessyouhavebeentrainedandcertied.Anuntrainedpersonruns
theriskofdamagingparts.
2.BeforereplacinganyFRU,reviewFRUreplacementnotices.
3.BeginbyremovinganyFRUsthathavetoberemovedbeforethefailingFRU.AnysuchFRUsarelisted
atthetopofthepage.Removethemintheorderinwhichtheyarelisted.
4.FollowthecorrectsequenceinthestepsforremovingtheFRU,asgiveninthedrawingsbythe
numbersinsquarecallouts.
5.WhenturningascrewtoreplaceaFRU,turnitinthedirectionasgivenbythearrowinthedrawing.
6.WhenremovingtheFRU,moveitinthedirectionasgivenbythearrowinthedrawing.
7.T oputthenewFRUinplace,reversetheremovalprocedureandfollowanynotesthatpertainto
replacement.Forinformationaboutconnectingandarranginginternalcables,seeLocations.
8.WhenreplacingaFRU,usethecorrectscrewasshownintheprocedures.
DANGER
BeforeremovinganyFRU,turnoffthecomputer,unplugallpowercordsfromelectricaloutlets,
removethebatterypack,andthendisconnectanyinterconnectingcables.
Attention:AfterreplacingaFRU,donotturnonthecomputeruntilyouhavemadesurethatallscrews,
springs,andothersmallpartsareinplaceandnonearelooseinsidethecomputer.Verifythisbyshaking
thecomputergentlyandlisteningforrattlingsounds.Metallicpartsormetalakescancauseelectrical
shortcircuits.
Attention:Thesystemboardissensitiveto,andcanbedamagedby,electrostaticdischarge.Before
touchingit,establishpersonalgroundingbytouchingagroundpointwithonehandorbyusingan
electrostaticdischarge(ESD)strap(P/N6405959).
