Chapter 5 HPSS Infrastructure
Configuration
5.1 Overview
Thischapterprovidesinstructions andsupportinginformation fortheinfrastructureconfiguration
of HPSS.
Beforeconfiguring theHPSSinfrastructure,we recommendthat theadministrator befamiliarwith
UNIXcommandsandconfiguration,befamiliarwithaUNIXtexteditor,andhavesomeexperience
with the C language, shell scripts, DCE, and Encina.
The procedures described in this chapter assume that DCE, Encina, Sammi, Java, and HPSS have
been successfully installed. In addition, a DCE/DFS cell has been fully configured.
5.1.1 Infrastructure Road Map
The steps required to configure the HPSS infrastructure are listed below. Each step is discussed in
more detail in the section referenced.
1. Verify the prerequisite software (Section 5.2 below).
2. Define the HPSS environment variables (Section 5.3: Define theHPSS Environment Variables
on page 216).
3. Configurethe HPSS infrastructure ona node (Section 5.4: Configurethe HPSS Infrastructure
on a Node on page 240).
5.2 Verify the Prerequisite Software
Verify that the appropriate versions of the following prerequisites have been installed and
configured in preparation for the HPSS infrastructure configuration (For versions, see Section 2.3:
Prerequisite Software Considerations on page 46):
