2.10.3.2.1 Disk Space Requirements for Core ﬁles and Encina Trace Buffers

The /var/hpss/adm/core is the default directory where HPSS creates core and Encina trace ﬁles

resulting from subsystem error conditions. The actual size of the ﬁles differ depending on the

subsystems involved, but it is recommended that there should be at least 512 MB reserved for this

purposeonthe coreserver nodeandat least256MBon Movernodes.Thisdirectoryshouldalso be

analyzed periodically to remove any old core ﬁles or Encina trace buffers.

2.10.3.2.2 Disk Space Requirements for HPSS Files

The /var/hpss/etc isthe default directorywhere someofthe additional Unix conﬁgurationﬁlesare

placed. These ﬁles are typically very small.

The /var/hpss/tmp is the default directory wherethe Startup Daemon createsa lock ﬁle for eachof

the HPSS servers it brought up in the node. These lock ﬁles are typically very small.

2.10.3.2.3 Disk Space Requirements for Running Log Daemon

The Log Daemon will create two central log ﬁles in the directory speciﬁed in its conﬁguration,

usually /var/hpss. The size of these log ﬁles are also speciﬁed in its conﬁguration, usually 5

megabytes each.

2.10.3.2.4 Disk Space Requirements for Running Log Client

Each Log Client will create one local log ﬁle in the directory speciﬁed in its conﬁguration, usually /

var/hpss. The size of the local log ﬁle is also speciﬁed in its conﬁguration, usually 5 megabytes.

2.10.3.2.5 Disk Space Requirements for Running MPS

Ifthe migration/purgereportis conﬁgured,theMPSwillgeneratea migration/purgereportevery

24 hours. The size of these reports varies depending on the number of ﬁles being migrated/purge

during the report cycle. These reports should be conﬁgured to be written into the /var/hpss/mps

directory and should be removed when no longer needed.

2.10.3.2.6 Disk Space Requirements for Running GK

If theGatekeeper Server is conﬁgured to doGatekeeping Services, then thesite may wish tocreate

asitepolicy conﬁgurationﬁlespeciﬁed intheGatekeeper Serverconﬁgurationrecord,usually/var/

hpss/gk/gksitepolicy. The size of this ﬁle depends on the site-implemented gatekeeping policy.

2.10.3.2.7 Disk Space Requirements for Running an Accounting Report

If an Accounting report is requested, a report ﬁle and a checkpoint ﬁle are created in the directory

speciﬁed inthe AccountingPolicy, usually /var/hpss/acct. The sizes of these ﬁlesdepend upon the

number of ﬁles stored in HPSS.
