3 Voice Services Making a Call 1. In the standby mode, enter the phone number. l To make an international call, press twice to enter the international long distance code of "+". Then, enter the number to be dialed in the "country code + region code + phone number" format. l three times To call a number through an extension, press to insert "P", or press four times to insert "T" between the phone number and the extension. 2. The Voice Privacy function is network dependent. TTY Setup: Allows you to set the TTY mode.
4 Text Entry Text Input Modes The indicator of the current input mode is displayed on the upper to change the input left corner of the screen. You can press modes. Indicator Text Input Mode En Smart English Abc Alphabetical Text 123 Number & l l Press once to delete the letter on the left of the cursor. Press and hold for about two seconds to delete all the letters at a time. You can press (Back) to return to the previous screen.
If the letter you want to enter is on the same key as the previous one, you can enter the latter only after the cursor appears again, or after you move the cursor to the next space. In the "Abc" input mode: l You can press once to enter a space, twice to enter "0". l You can press repeatedly to enter the commonly used punctuations. n Smart English Input ("En") The "En" input mode recognizes commonly used words according to the numeric sequence of key presses.

5 Message Writing and Sending a Message 1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Messages > Create Message. You can also access the Create Message menu by pressing and holding for about two seconds in the standby mode. 2. Write the message. (Options) for the following options: You can press l Send: Allows you to send the message. l Save: Allows you to save the message as a draft. l Insert Quick Text: Allows you to edit the message based on a template.
& l l In the text editing screen, press to send the message directly. When entering the number(s) of the recipients, you can also choose Options > Enter Email to sent the message to an email address. Reading a Message To read a message stored in the inbox, do as follows: 1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Messages > Inbox. 2. Press 3. Press to select a message. to view the message. 4. Press (Options) to select the following options: Reply: Allows you to edit a message and reply the message sender.
6 Contacts Adding a Contact 1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Contacts > Add New. (OK). 2. Press to enter Name, and then press 3. Enter the necessary information in the fields: Mobile Number, Home Number, Office Number, and Fax Number (at least one number field is required.). You can enter the E-mail of a new contact and select the Group, Notes, and Custom Tone for the contact. 4. Press (Save) to save the information. The new contact is saved to Contacts. Searching for a Contact 1.
7 @metro With Mobile Shop, you can download full featured applications over the air including games, personalized ring tones, pictures, and more. You can send and receive instant messages and email, or browse the web to catch up on all the latest news. This section outlines how to obtain games and other applications for your phone. For more information about this function, consult your service provider.
Changing Your @metro Settings Use the Settings menu in Mobile Shop to manage, move, order applications, and much more. 1. In the standby mode, press to launch @metro. 2. At the @metro menu, Press to select Settings, then press . The following options appear in the display: l Order Apps: Download applications over the network. l Move Apps: Move previously downloaded applications between available folders. l Manage Apps: View used and available memory.
n Buying New Apps To buy new and exciting apps, visit the Mobile Shop. It provides you with a variety of apps you can choose from. n What do I pay? When you buy an app, you will be charged for the purchase cost of the app. n Demo Apps A Demo app is free and is designed to demonstrate the app’s main features. It usually expires after a certain period of time or a number of uses and often has limited functions.
n Expired Apps Apps that were purchased based on the number of uses or for a specified period of time expire. You can purchase additional uses from the Mobile Shop.
8 Alarm Clock After the alarm clock is enabled, the phone notifies you at the preset time if the phone is powered on. You can set up to five alarm clocks. Enabling an Alarm Clock 1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Tools > Alarms. 2. Press to select an alarm clock, and then press to set the alarm. 3. The following options appear in the display: l Time: Allows you to set the time of alarm clock. to set the time, and then press again to confirm.
4. Press (Save) to save the settings, with displaying a prompt to confirm. & l l When the alarm clock alerts, press (Stop)to stop the alarm. Alternatively, press (Snooze) to snooze it for five minutes, after which the alarm alerts again. If the alarm clock is unattended when it alerts, it stops temporarily and alerts again five minutes later. It alerts for five times before it finally stops. Disabling an Alarm Clock 1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Tools > Alarms. 2.
9 Security Enabling/Disabling the Phone Lock The phone lock protects your phone from unauthorized use. By default, the phone lock function is disabled. You can change the default phone lock code (the last four digits of your phone number) to any numeric string in the range of 4 to 8 digits. 1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Settings > Security Settings > Phone Lock. 2. Select one of the following phone lock modes: l Immediate: Lock the phone immediately.
10 Recorder Recording a Sound Clip 1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Tools > Recorder. to start recording. 2. Press 3. Press (Back) to stop recording, with displaying a prompt to confirm. 4. Press Press & (Yes) to save the sound clip to Voice Folder. (No) to return to the earlier menu. When recording a sound clip, you can press to stop recording, and the sound clip saves to Voice Folder automatically.
l l File Info: Allows you to view the format, size, date, and time of the sound clip. Delete All: Allows you to delete all sound clips. & You can also access the Voice Folder by choosing Menu > Gallery > Voice Folder.
11 TTY Operation Using the TTY Device The Teletypewriter (TTY) is a typewriting device. By connecting the phone to the TTY device, you can use the TTY functions to send/receive messages. When you use the TTY function, do as follows: 1. Connect the TTY device to the headset jack of the phone and set the phone to the TTY mode. 2. Make or answer calls as normal. 3. When the call is put through, use the TTY device to send or receive the letters. 4. Press or (End) to end the call. Setting the TTY Mode 1.
12 Menu Commands Messages Voice Mail Create Message Allows you to receive voice mails. You can also clear the voice mail notifications. Allows you to write and send a message. Inbox Allows the phone to store the received messages and delivery reports. You can view, reply, delete, and forward messages in Inbox. You can save the numbers extracted from the messages or make calls.
Settings Send Settings: l Auto Save: Allows you to select the following items, including Send Only (to send the message without saving) and Send & Save (to send the message and save it in Outbox automatically). l Priority: Allows you to set the priority of messages sent to the recipients. The priorities are Normal, Interactive, Urgent, and Emergency. The message priority function is network dependent.
Statistics: Allows you to view the number of the sent and the received messages, and the time when you last clear the statistics. You can press (Clear) to clear all the statistics. Memory Status: Allows you to view the status of memory for messages (the memory used and the total memory). The phone can save up to 100 messages. Delete All Allows you to delete messages in the inbox, outbox, drafts, or delete all messages. Contacts Search Allows you to find a phone number from Contacts.
Call Log All Calls Missed Calls Received Calls Allows you to view, save, and delete call records (up to 20), send messages, save number, or make calls to the corresponding numbers. Dialed Calls Call Memo Allows you to enter the Call Memo menu. Call Duration Allows you to view the duration of the last call, received calls, dialed calls, total calls, and last clear time. @Metro Allows you to browse and download applications from network provider’s server.
Gallery Images Allows the phone to store pictures in the bmp, jpg, png, gif, and bci format. Allows you to view, rename, set a picture as wallpaper, delete, delete all, and view the information of the pictures. Sounds Allows the phone to store music in the mid, mp3, and qcp format. Voice Folder Allows the phone to store and play audio files recorded by the phone.
Alert Settings Volume: Allows you to set the volume: press or to increase the volume, and press , , or to decrease the volume: Ring: Allows you to set the volume of ringtones. l Voice: Allows you to set the voice volume during calls. l Key: Allows you to set the volume of pressing the keys. Alert Type: Allows you to select the ring mode, including Ring, Vibration, Ring & Vibration, and Silence. Sound Settings: l Incoming Call Tone: Allows you to select a ringtone for incoming calls.
Call Settings Answer Mode: Allows you to set the answer mode to By Send Key, By Flip Open, or By Any Key (The any-key answer function allows you to answer an incoming call by pressing any key except and ). Minute Alert: Notifies you of the call duration by generating an alert 10 seconds or 5 seconds before end of each minute (by selecting 45 Seconds, 50 Seconds, or 55 Seconds), if enabled. Voice Privacy: Allows you to set the privacy mode, including Standard and Enhanced.
TTY Setup: Allows you to use an optional TTY device with your phone to send and receive calls. Four options are available: Voice, TTY, VCO, and HCO. Location: Allows the phone to inform the network about the location where it is being used. Then, the network can search out the location of your phone. l Location On: Your phone accepts the location request at any time. l 911 Only: The phone does not send location information unless you call the emergency number 911.
Tools Recorder Allows you to use the recorder. For details, see "Recorder" on page 25. Alarms Allows the phone to alert according to the specified mode at the preset time. You can set up to five alarm clocks. Scheduler Allows the phone to store your appointments (up to 20) so that the phone reminds you at the specified time. Calculator Allows you to calculate arithmetic expressions. The calculator supports fractional arithmetic.
13 Troubleshooting If you encounter any problem when using your phone, try to rectify the problem according to the following table. If the problem persists, contact the service provider or the dealer. Problem Ensure that… The battery cannot be charged. The charger is properly connected to your phone and the power socket. The phone cannot be powered on. The battery power is sufficient. The battery is properly installed. Press and hold . The phone number is correct. You are in the network service area.
Problem Your phone displays "No service found", "Service unavailable" or "Network problem". l l 38 Ensure that… You are not in an area with weak magnetic field (in a tunnel or surrounded by buildings). If so, move to another area and try again. Do not visit the service option without obtaining authorization from your service provider.
14 Warnings and Precautions n Electronic Device l l l Power off your phone near high-precision electronic devices. The phone may affect the performance of these devices. Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum separation of 7 inches (20 cm) be maintained between a mobile phone and a pace-maker to avoid potential interference with the pace-maker. To maintain this distance, it is recommended that you use the phone on the opposite ear from your pacemaker and do not carry it in a breast pocket.
l l l l l Devices/Vehicles transporting and storing fuels or chemical products Areas containing chemical substances or particles (such as sand, dust, or metal powder) in the air Areas with posted signs warning of "Explosives" Areas advising to "Power off bi-direction wireless equipment" Any Area where it is recommended to turn off the engine of a vehicle. n Traffic Safety l l l l Please observe federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning phone use while driving.
l l Do not leave your phone, battery, or charger in a very hot or cold place. Otherwise, malfunction, fire, or explosion may occur. Do not place sharp metal objects such as pins near the earpiece. The earpiece emits a magnetic field that may attract objects, causing injury. n Operating Environment l l l l l l l The phone, battery, and charger are not water-resistant. Keep them dry. Protect the phone, battery and charge from water or steam. Do not touch the phone with a wet skin.
l l Use only phone accessories authorized by the manufacturer. Use of unauthorized accessories will void warranty. While using the mobile phone, observe all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and respect others' privacy and legal rights. n Child Safety l l l Keep your phone, battery, and charger beyond the reach of children. Do not allow children to use the phone, battery, or charger without adult supervision. Do not allow children to place batteries in their mouths.
n Environmental Protection l l Please observe all federal, state, and local regulations regarding the disposal of your packaging materials, dead battery and used phone. Do not dispose of dead battery or used phone in municipal waste or by incineration. Otherwise, explosion may occur. Please recycle. This HUAWEI device complies with Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
l l l l l l If battery leakage, smoke, or strange smells occur, remove battery from phone and keep it away from open flame to avoid fire or explosion. Then take to local authorized service center for repair. If battery fluid contacts your skin or clothing, wash with clean water immediately to avoid skin irritation. If battery fluid gets into eyes, do not rub them. This could cause injury. Wash with clean water and consult a doctor immediately.
l l If liquid leaks into the charger, remove the plug of the charger from the socket immediately. Otherwise, overheating, fire or other malfunction may occur. The Travel Adaptor for this phone meets UL 1310 safety requirements.
