1 Getting to Know Your Phone Screen Icons The following table lists the screen icons and their meanings: Indicates the signal strength. The more the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Indicates that the network is connecting the call or you are answering or receiving a call. Indicates a new message is received. Indicates the Inbox is full. Silence mode is activated. Indicates that you have set the alarm clock. Indicates that the Alert type is set to Vibration. Indicates the battery energy level.
2 Getting Started Installing UIM Card and Battery Caution: Consult your service provider to decide whether to use UIM card or not. If UIM card is used, read the following safety precautions carefully to ensure correct and safe use of the UIM card: z z z Keep your UIM card away from children. Insert and remove the UIM card with care. Scratching or bending can easily damage the UIM card or its contact electrode.

2 Getting Started Install the UIM card 1. Slide the cardholding catch upwards. Let the chamfer of the UIM card face the right upper part of the handset and ensure that the metal contact point of the UIM card faces downward. 2. Place the bottom edge of the card behind the two protusions of the cardholding socket. Then the rest of the card fits into the cardholding socket. 3. Secure the UIM card into the cardholding socket by sliding the cardholding catch downwards.
2 Getting Started Charging the Battery Battery Type Li-ion Capacity 550 mAh Talk time 2h Stand-by Charge for time first time 120h 2h Standby time refers to the duration during which your phone remains idle, though powered on, without processing calls, messages or any other applications. Talk time and standby time may vary with your UIM card, network, phone settings, or environment. Precautions z Do not use a damaged battery. z Charge the battery before you use the battery for the first time.
2 Getting Started When the battery icon indicates that the battery energy level is low, charge the battery as follows: 1. Connect the travel charger to the charger interface of your phone. 2. Connect the charger to the AC power socket. The red indicator is active during the charge. 3. The 7-color LED in the front-face of the phone glows with a specified colour during the charging. Disconnect the charger from the AC power socket, and then disconnect the charger from your phone.
2 2 1 Getting Started 3 Power On/Off the Phone Press and hold for two seconds to power on or power off your phone. Note: If your phone displays the message Input phone code: when powered on, enter the correct phone lock code and then press Ok. For details, see "Setting Phone Lock" on page 37. If UIM card is available, then pay attention to the following aspects. z z z z If you do not insert the UIM card to your phone, your phone displays Check UIM card after powered on.
3 Text Entry Changing Text Input Mode Your phone allows you to input English, and numbers. While entering text, you can change the input mode by pressing following table lists the types of input mode and their indicators. Indicator Text input mode Indicator . 3 Text Entry Entering English Alphabetical Text Input Alphabetical Text input allows you to enter upper case or lower case English characters by selecting "ABC" or "abc" mode. You can press a numeric key labeled with required letters once to enter the first letter on the key, twice to enter the second letter on the key, and so on.
3 Text Entry Entering Digits You can use either of the following methods to enter numbers: z In the "123" input mode, you can directly press the numeric key labeled with the desired digits. z In the "ABC" or "abc" input mode, you can press the numeric key repeatedly until the desired digit appears on the screen. z In the "eZiEn" input mode, you can press the numeric key and then press until the desired digit appears on the screen.
4 Voice Services Making an Emergency Call If you need to make an emergency call, make sure: z Your phone is powered on and your phone is in the service area. z The signal received is strong enough. You can make an emergency call even when: z The UIM card is not inserted. z The phone or the UIM card is locked. z The keypad is locked. Making a Call Using Keypad 1. In the standby mode, enter the phone number. If the entered digit is wrong, press Clear. 2. Press 3. Press z to call this number.
4 Voice Services Making a Call from Dialed Calls List 1. Press Menu and select Call History/Dialed calls. 2. Press to select the desired number. 3. Press to dial this number. 4 Voice Services Activating Flip Answer Function Press Menu to select Settings/Call settings/Answer option/Flip answer. To receive a call, you may flip open your phone. Activating Any Key Answer Function Press Menu to select Settings/Call settings/Answer option/Any-key answer. To receive a call, you may answer the call by pressing any key except and . Options during a Call Adjusting Earpiece Volume During a call, you can press or or to increase volume and press to decrease volume.
4 Voice Services Swapping between Two Calls If you activate the Call waiting function and your operator’s network supports this function, you can handle two calls at the same time. 1. During a call, press Answer or to answer the second incoming call. The first call is automatically put on hold. Alternatively, you can press Reject to reject the second incoming call. 2. Press 3. Press to swap between the two calls. to end both calls.
4 Voice Services please consult your service provider. Setting Minute Alert Function 1. Press Menu to select Settings/Call settings/Minute alert. 2. Select one of the following options: z On: Activate the Minute Alert function. With Minute Alert activated, your mobile notifies you of the call duration by giving an alert 10 seconds earlier to the end of each minute. z Off: Deactivate the Minute Alert function.
5 Message Setting Frequently Used Phrases 1. 2. 3. 4. Press Menu to select Messages/Message settings/Phrases. Press to select the phrase to be edited. Enter the new content. Press Ok to save the new content. Setting Message Group Information While setting the message group, you must select the records in your phone memory instead of those in the UIM card. Message groups are not the groups in the phone book. Setting message groups does not affect the groups set in the phone book.
5 Message Writing and Sending a Message to One or More Mumbers 1. Press Menu to select Messages/Write message. 2. Write the message. For details, see "Text Entry" on page 12. Note: While writing the message, you can press Options to select Insert phrase to insert frequently used phrases. For details, see "Setting Frequently Used Phrases" on page 20. Select Insert phone number to insert the phone number of a contact in the phone book. 3. Press Options to select Send.

After reading the message, press Back to return to the Inbox menu. Viewing a Message in the Outbox If you select Send&Save when sending a message, the message is saved to the outbox. Querying Messages Memory Status Press Menu to select Messages/Message settings/Memory status to view the message memory status.
5 z Message Off: Not to get a delivery report. Calling Voice Mail Center Voice mail is a network-dependent feature. It is available only after you subscribe to this service. After setting the voice mail number, press Ok. Press to select Call voice mail center. Press Select to call voice mail center.
6 Data Services Your phone can serve as a high-speed modem if connected to a desktop PC or a laptop PC, allowing you to enjoy wireless services anytime anywhere. Data services are network dependent. z If the network prefers voice services and your phone allows call waiting, you can still answer a call when you are using data services. z When you are answering a call, you will not be able to use data and fax services.
6 Data Services Data Modem While using data services, you can set the data transmission rate. Check the network supported by your carrier. It is recommended to select On to get a higher data transmission rate because up to now the CDMA2000 1X network is the mainstream application. 1. Set the CDMA2000 1X high-speed data transmission rate at your phone. 1) Press Menu, and then select Settings/Data modem/High speed 1X data.
6 Data Services Receiving a Fax 1. Set the Fax Rx mode at the phone side as follows: 1) Press Menu to select Settings/Data modem/Fax/Data Rx mode. 2) Press z for any of the following: Select Off (default), and you cannot receive fax or data. The phone regards the next call as a voice one. z Select Fax until next call, and the phone regards the next call as a fax. Upon receipt of a call, the phone automatically sets Fax/Data Rx mode back to Off.
6 Data Services Receiving Asynchronous Data 1. Set the Data Rx mode at the phone side as follows: 1) Press Menu to select Settings/Data modem/Fax/Data Rx mode. 2) Press z for any of the following: Select Off (default), and you cannot receive the fax. The phone regards the next call as a voice one. z Select Data until next call, and the phone regards the next call as receive data. Upon receipt of a call, the phone automatically sets Fax/Data Rx mode back to Off.
7 Phone Book Adding a New Record The new record will be saved to the current memory. For details, see "Setting Current Memory" on page 35. 1. Press Menu to select Phone Book/Add new. 2. Enter the name, press OK . 3. If the phone is being used for storage, you can enter the General number, Mobile number, Home number, Office number, E-mail, Notes, Group and Default Ring, and then press set.) OK . (At least one number field should be 4.

After the matched record is displayed, press Options for one of the following operations: z Select Edit to modify or view the entry. z If the entry is saved in UIM card, then select Copy to phone to copy this record to the phone memory. If the entry is saved in phone memory, then select Copy to UIM to copy this record to UIM card. z z Select Delete to delete this record. Select Write message to write a message.
7 Phone Book 4. Press Menu to select Phone Book/Delete all. 5. If UIM card is not used, select Delete All to delete all the records in the phone memory. If UIM card is available, select Phone to delete all the records in the phone memory; select UIM card to delete all the records in the UIM card. 6. Press Yes to delete all the records. Alternatively, press No to cancel the operation. Note: Press to delete the record, press to cancel the operation.
7 Phone Book Copy all the records as follows: 5. Press Menu to select Phone Book/Copy all. 6. Select UIM card to Phone or Phone to UIM card. z Select UIM card to phone, all the records are copied to the phone memory. z Select Phone to UIM card, all the records are copied to the UIM card. 7. Press Yes to copy the records. Alternatively, press No to cancel the operation. Grouping Numbers You can sort your records saved in the phone book into different groups for easy management.

To view a specific record in a group, you can press Options for one of the following operations: z Select Contact Details to view the details. z Select Delete to delete this record from the selected group. z Select Write message to write a message. 7 Phone Book Checking Remaining Space You can save the phone book in your phone memory or UIM card. Your phone memory can save up to 500 records, while the capacity of the UIM card varies. 1. Press Menu to select Phone Book/Memory Info/Memory status. 2. Check the remaining space in your phone memory or in your UIM card.
8 Security Settings Setting Phone Lock This function prevents unauthorized use of the phone after the phone is stolen or the UIM card is changed. This function is not activated upon purchase. You can change the default phone lock code "000000" into any code of four to eight digits. If the Phone Lock function is activated, your phone displays the message Input phone code: when powered on. To use the phone, you need to enter the correct phone lock code and then press Ok. Make sure to remember the code.
8 Security Settings work with the new UIM card. The personal identification number (PIN) comes with your UIM card. If you do not have the PIN or you lose or forget it, please contact your service provider. If the PIN Lock function is activated, your phone displays the message Input PIN: when powered on. To use the phone, you need to enter the correct PIN and then press Ok. If you enter a wrong PIN for three successive times, your UIM card is locked.
8 Security Settings destroyed. In this case, you need to contact with your service provider to replace the UIM card. 1. Enter the correct PUK code and press Ok. 2. Enter a new PIN and press Ok. 3. Re-enter the PIN and press Ok. Restoring Factory Settings This function allows you to restore your phone to the factory settings. 1. Press Menu to select Settings/Restore factory settings. 2. Enter the correct phone code. 3. Press Ok.
9 Features and Settings Setting Key Guard When the keypad is locked, you can still press or dial the emergency number. to receive incoming calls Locking Keypad Manually Press and hold for about two seconds. Locking Keypad Automatically After the Auto key guard function is activated, your phone automatically locks the keypad after a specified time. The Auto Key Guard function takes effect in the standby mode. That is, your phone does not lock the keypad in the non-standby mode. 1.

Notification of a new message can also be obtained through the headset Setting Headset Ringing 1. Press Menu to select Settings/Phone settings/Headset ring. 2. Select one of the following options: z On: Activate Headset Ringing function.

Set the alarm period. z If you select Once, the alarm rings only once. z If you select Everyday, the alarm rings once every day. z If you select Custom, the alarm rings at the customized time. (One or more days can be selected /deselected by pressing Select or the corresponding numeric key.) 6.

Your phone records the duration of the last call, dialed calls, received calls, and all dialed and received calls. You can reset the records. The call duration displayed on your phone may differ from that on the call detailed record (CDR) that you get from your service provider.
10 Menu Command Alarm See "Alarm Clock" on page 41. Calendar See "Calendar" on page 42. Calculator The calculator supports fractional arithmetic. You can press to enter the decimal point. You can also press to select operators such as add, subtract, multiply and divide. Currency converter See "Currency Converter" on page 43. Stopwatch Your phone is equipped with a stopwatch, which can record a time up to 9 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds and 990 milliseconds.
10 Menu Command Display You can set backlight, LCD contrast, wallpaper, and LED settings. If the 7-color LED is activated, the LED glows with a specified color when you receive a call or a message, when the alarm clock rings, when the phone is charging or when the calendar alerts. Time format You can set your phone to 12-hour format or 24-hour format. Call settings See "Voice Services" on page 15. Phone settings You can set the language supported by the phone and the headset parameters.
11 Care and Maintenance Basic Maintenance z Keep your phone and its accessories out of the reach of children. z Keep your phone dry. z Do not use your phone in dusty or dirty areas. Its parts or components may get damaged. z Do not drop, knock, or shake your phone. Rough handling may break internal circuit boards. z Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean your phone. z Do not attempt to open the phone. Non-expert handling may damage your phone.
12 Troubleshooting If you come across any problem in using your phone, check it against the following error messages and follow the troubleshooting procedures before consulting your service provider. Check UIM card Your UIM card is not inserted to the phone or is not inserted properly. Please insert the UIM card by referring to "Installing UIM Card and Battery" on page 6. Emergency call only You are in the network coverage area. However, no services except the emergency call service can be provided.
13 Warnings and Precautions Electronic Device Switch off your phone near high-precision electronic devices. The phone may affect the performance of these devices. Such devices include hearing aids, pacemakers, fire alarm systems, automatic gates, and other automatic-control devices. If you are using an electronic medical device, consult the device manufacturer and confirm whether the radio wave affects the operation of this electronic device.

13 Warnings and Precautions Storage Environment z Do not place magnetic storage media such as magnetic cards and floppy disks near the phone. Radiation from the phone may erase the information stored on them. z Do not put your phone, battery, or other accessories in containers with strong magnetic field, such as the induction cooker and microwave oven. Otherwise, circuit failure, fire, or explosion can be caused. z Do not leave your phone, battery, or charger in a very hot or cold place.
13 Warnings and Precautions z Do not use the phone in dusty, damp and dirty places or places with magnetic field. Otherwise, malfunction of the circuit can be caused. z Do not turn on or off the phone when it is near your ears to avoid negative impact on your health. z When you carry or use the phone, keep the antenna at least one inch (2.5 centimeters) away from your body, to avoid negative impact on your health caused by radio frequency leakage.
13 Warnings and Precautions z Do not scratch the shell of the phone. Otherwise, the shed coating may cause skin allergy. Once it happens, stop using the phone at once and go to see a doctor. z Keep the plug dry when you clean it, to prevent fire. z If the phone or any of its fittings does not work, turn to the local authorize service center for help.
13 Warnings and Precautions z If there is battery leakage, smoke, or strange smell, stop using the battery and keep it away from open flame to avoid fire or explosion. Then turn to an authorized maintainer for help. z If the battery fluid contacts skin or cloth, wash with clean water immediately to avoid irritation to the skin. z If the battery fluid gets into eyes, do not rub your eyes. Otherwise, your eyes can be hurt. Wash with clean water and seek medical assistance immediately.
13 Warnings and Precautions explosion. To unplug the charger, pull the plug off rather than tear the power cord. z Use the AC power supply defined in the specifications of the charger. An improper power voltage can cause fire or malfunction of the charger. z Do not place any heavy object on the power cord of the charger. Do not damage, change, or pluck the power cord. Otherwise electric shock or fire can be caused.
13 Warnings and Precautions SAR value is determined at the highest certified power level in laboratory conditions, but the actual SAR level of the mobile phone while operating can be well below the value. This is because the mobile phone is designed to use the minimum power required to reach the network. All models of Huawei’s mobile phone are designed to meet radio frequency exposure guidelines.
