Set up your HTC Surround™ Remove the back cover Insert the SIM card Make sure that your device is turned off before you remove the back cover or battery. The SIM card contains your phone number and service details. 1. Hold the device securely. 1. Insert the SIM card with its gold contacts facing down and its cut-off corner facing out from the slot. 2. Pry the device’s back cover up by the notch at the bottom of the back cover. 2. Slide the SIM card completely into the slot. 3.
Set up your HTC Surround™ (continued) Insert the battery Charge the battery Your device comes with a rechargeable lithium ion battery and is designed to use only manufacturer-specified original batteries. Charge the battery before you start using your device. 1. Align the battery’s exposed copper contacts with the battery connectors inside the battery compartment. 1. Connect the device to the AC adapter using the USB sync cable. 2.
Set up your HTC Surround™ (continued) Turn on your HTC Surround™ Lock and unlock the screen Press the power button on the top panel to turn your device on. To lock the screen, briefly press the power button. To unlock the screen, press the power button, then drag or flick the lock screen or incoming call wallpaper to the top of the screen. Power button Sign into your phone A Windows Live ID is the email address you use to sign in to services like Xbox LIVE®, Zune®, Hotmail® and so on.
About the Start screen The Start screen contains tiles that are associated with apps and hubs on your phone. Flick up or down on the screen to see the other tiles that are on the Start screen. Pin your frequently accessed apps, contact cards, and more on the Start screen. What you will find on the Start screen Tap the top of the screen to display the status bar. Tap to go to the application list. Tap a tile to open the application or hub.

Manage contacts Import your contacts When you set up your Facebook, Outlook or Google account, your contacts are imported automatically into your People hub. And when you add Facebook, your friends’ feeds appear in your People hub, their photos show up in your Pictures hub, and your own feeds pop up in your Me tile. To set up a Facebook (or any kind of email) account: 1. Tap the arrow on Start to go to your App list. 2. Tap Settings > email & accounts.
Manage contacts (continued) Facebook Link contacts Use Facebook You can link contacts if you have two or more versions of the same contact because you have contact info for that person on different social networks or email accounts (for example, Windows Life and Facebook). When you sign in to your Facebook (or Windows Live) account, your Me tile is automatically created on the Start screen. Note: S ee Manage Contacts for information on signing into Facebook and other (email) accounts.

Tap to switch to video mode. 3. Press the Camera Shutter to start recording video.
Browse the Web Open a Web page Navigate Web pages 1. From the Start screen, tap the Internet Explorer tile. Rotate your device to view the web page in landscape view. Use finger gestures to move around on the Web page. 2. Tap the address bar and enter a website address, then tap . Note: Y ou need to hold the device in portrait orientation to see the address bar. To bookmark a Web page, tap To open, swap or close tabs, tap . . Double tap to zoom in or out. You can also pinch to zoom.
Search becomes find Voice recognition Search is your one-button gateway to all kinds of answers. Want to find a contact? Press Search from People or call history. Looking for an email message? Press Search in email. Or press it in Maps to find an address, coffee shop, zoo or any other place. Looking for a movie time? Flight info? Weather? Stock prices? Just press Search.
Send email Types of email accounts Set up additional email accounts You can access different email account types on your Windows phone: If you didn’t set up an account when you set up your phone for the first time, tap the Email setup tile on the Start screen then go to step 3. • Internet-based (POP3/IMAP) email accounts from your internet service provider (ISP). • Web-based accounts like Hotmail, Yahoo! or Gmail. • Corporate Email Accounts from your Microsoft® Exchange server.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Stay in sync Connect to a Wi-Fi network To sync your music, videos, pictures and updates from your computer to your phone (or vice versa), you’ll need the Zune software. Wi-Fi provides a fast, seamless connection at home, in the office and at thousands of hotspots. Using Wi-Fi is convenient and helps you save on your mobile data usage. To help you take advantage of the speed and flexibility of Wi‑Fi, your phone arrives with Wi-Fi on. 1. From the Start screen, tap > Settings > Wi-Fi.
Get apps or music from the Marketplace On Windows® Marketplace, it’s easy to download and purchase new apps, games and music that fit your needs and make your phone truly personal. A wide range of free and premium programs is available, from games to powerful business applications. Find apps or music Install apps 1. From the Start screen, tap the Marketplace tile. 1.
