Simplified Library Management
HPE Command View for Tape Libraries Base Software (CVTL) provides the single pane of glass management platform which allows
users to configure, mana
ge and monitor all of their tape libraries through a single console. The intuitive CVTL dashboard is fully
integrated with TapeAssure Advanced & Data Verification, and presents all of the library, drive and cartridge data pulled fro
m those
reports in straightforward graphs and charts.
The CVTL dashboard also provides users with other tools to simplify the management of their library environment, such as libr
ary
partitioning. Partitioning allows each partitioned library to be presented to the host as an ind
ependent library, separate from other
partitions in the library. Hosts for each partition own independent sets of media and can use ISV software that is different
from the
other partitions allowing maximum flexibility and utilization of the MSL library.
Peace of Mind: HPE StoreEver TapeAssure Advanced & Data Verification Software are licensed features of the HPE StoreEver
Management Software solution, and provide the analytical reporting tools that provide users with peace of mind by knowing how
their tape environment is performing.
TapeAssure Advanced monitors the health and performance of tape drives and cartridges, and the CVTL Dashboard allows users to
easily view the results of TapeAssure reports in a simplified or detailed view. Pie charts demons
trate the proportion of drives and
cartridges that are healthy or are in need of attention, and these are categorized by the performance advisor feature in Tape
Assure
Advanced. Drives and cartridges are categorized into a healthy (green zone), warning (amb
er zone) or critical (red zone) status based
on the utilization and performance. Users can drill down to view the health and performance status of individual drives and c
artridges
by serial number, which helps to pinpoint exactly where in the library envir
onment that issues are occurring, or where performance
and utilization can be improved.
Data Verification scans LTO tapes in MSL3040 & MSL6480 tape libraries to verify that that critical business data stored on th
ose
tapes is healthy, and that a successful
restore will occur when they are retrieved from archive. This feature improves the reliability of
a tape library environment and reduces any risk of restore failures. Data Verification scans run in the background without in
terrupting
host applications, an
d proactively notify the user if there is a need for data to be migrated. Data Verification can also scan both
encrypted and non-
encrypted tapes that are written in an LTFS format, and verification results are maintained so that users can view
how the data stored on the cartridge has changed over time.
Predictive Analytics: HPE StoreEver Management Software also enables users to plan ahead by making use of predictive analytics.
TapeAssure Advanced uses statistical analysis of performance, health and utilization information to predict future performance of
an
entire tape infrastructure.
Benefits of predictive analytics include anticipating issues such as hardware failures, potential bottlen
ecks and load balancing issues
that could all impact the utilization and performance of a tape environment. Anticipating the likelihood of issues such as
hardware
failures and system bottlenecks will significantly reduce unscheduled downtime and minimize any risk of losing critical business data.
