188 CHAPTER 5: CONFIGURING WX SYSTEM AND ADMINISTRATIVE PARAMETERS
Configuring Basic
WX Properties
To configure basic WX properties, do the following steps.
1 Access the WX Switch wizard for the switch. (See “Accessing the WX
Switch Wizard” on page 187.)
2 Select System and Administrative at the top of the wizard, if not already
selected.
3 Select WX Properties from the organizer list on the left side of the page, if
not already selected.
4 In the WX Name box, type the name of the WX switch (1 to 256
alphanumeric characters, with no spaces or tabs).
Within a network plan (and all Mobility Domains), each WX must have a
unique name.
5 In the WX Model list, select the WX switch model.
6 In the Software Version list, select the version of Mobility System
Software (MSS) you expect to run on the WX switch.
7 To enable the switch to be managed by 3WXM, select Managed. Until
this option is selected, you cannot deploy the configuration you create in
3WXM to the actual switch in the network.
CAUTION: After you select Managed to enable management of the
switch by 3WXM, do not change this option unless advised to do so by
3Com technical support. If you change a WX switch to an unmanaged
state in a network plan, all network operations (polling) stop for that WX
switch. If you change back to a managed state, the entire configuration
of the switch is replaced with the settings from the network plan, which
can result in loss of connectivity to the switch.
8 In the Serial Number box, type the serial number of the switch.
9 Select the wiring closet you want 3WXM to place the WX switch in. If no
wiring closets are defined yet or you do not want to place the WX switch
in a closet at this time, select Not Assigned.
10 In the VLAN/IP list, select the VLAN IP address used by the 3WXM client to
connect to the WX.
For more information about VLANs, see “Configuring VLANs” on
page 189.
11 In the Enable Password box, type the enable password for the WX.
