1.5 New in this Release
Rev. 9/8/06
Web-Based Enterprise Services Release Notes 1–7
Note
The preliminary implementation of HP ISEE Virtual Library System (VLS) Support
is disabled in WEBES 4.5 by default. A message will display if you try to configure
support of VLS devices.
The Beta program will validate the preliminary implementation prior to official
release. After Beta, ISEE VLS support will be available to all VLS customers with
products under warranty or an appropriate support contract. Through “Subcriber’s
Choice,” HP will notify VLS customers when ISEE VLS support is enabled by
default in a WEBES release, or if needed, how to enable it. (See the "»Subscribe" link
on the bottom of the www.hp.com home page.)
Please contact isee.vlsbeta@hp.com if you are interested in participating in the Beta
program.
The “Managed Device Entitlement” section covers the data entry needed to configure
or optimize support for VLS devices in WEBES.
• Supports HP StorageWorks VLS6105, VLS6109, VLS6510, VLS6518, VLS6840, and
VLS6870, with firmware version 1.0.12 or later.
• Requires WEBES installations on HP Proliant 32-bit Windows 2000 Server and
Windows Server 2003 (not supported on Windows XP or 64-bit Windows or
non-Windows platforms).
• An HP ProLiant Intel 32-bit machine can support multiple VLS devices. This machine
may also be a System Management Server (SMS), Storage Management Appliance
(SMA), or Network-Attached Storage (NAS) that is also supported by Command View
TL. However, as of this writing, these have not been fully tested.
• Install HP ISEE Client or upgrade to version A.03.95 or later.
• Microsoft JVM 5.00.3810 or later (reboot after installing and run Windows update to
acquire the JVM patch) must already be installed for an HP ISEE Client installation to
succeed. Windows 2003 does not have MS JVM by default.
• SNMP services must be installed and enabled for monitoring VLS nodes.
• Fully integrated with the WEBES and ISEE solution.
• Promotes improved up-time for customers entitled by warranty or an appropriate support
contract ID, by facilitating lower failure-to-repair time, and higher first-time-fix rates.
• Automated event monitoring using custom rules.
• Detection of actionable Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) failures with reporting to
customers and to the HP backend.
• Automatic entitlement of VLS nodes (subject to new product labeling).
• SEA will collect the data from the VLS to be sent to HP customer support via ISEE, to
allow for better problem diagnosis by HP. Problem reports sent to HP will also contain a
URL link to data within the internal HP environment. This link provides HP support with
event history on the VLS device, and will not be accessible outside of HP. WEBES users
will not notice any change in problem reports notified either to the Web interface, SMTP
email, OSEM, or any other routes besides ISEE because of this new feature.
