Reconfiguring the monitoring and analysis of log files
To reconfigure the monitoring and analysis of log files, the Log Analyzer configuration files must be
reconfigured. Then, the Log Analyzer daemons (on Linux systems) or the LogAnalyzer service (on Windows
systems) must be restarted in order for the changes in the Log Analyzer configuration files to take effect.
The FSE event log
The FSE event log records specific information on events occurring in FSE processes during the operation of
FSE. It provides summary reporting on routine and non-routine events. These events are, for example,
startup of the FSE agents and daemons (services), startup and completion of FSE jobs, reconfiguration of
FSE resources, operations with FSE media and so on. This helps you to determine the load on the FSE
implementation, the frequency and the duration of FSE jobs, backup creation interval, disk usage
(watermarks), and so on. All these statistics can be used for fine-tuning the FSE implementation.
Logging FSE media operations
Some operations on FSE tape media may be rather long-lasting. In order to facilitate tracking, monitoring,
and debugging of operations like migrations, recalls, and media formatting and initialization, these
operations are also logged. Such logging is also enabled for FSE disk media.
The following operations on media are logged in the FSE event log:
• Searching for EOD (end-of-data)
• Searching to the beginning of an FSE medium volume
• Changing the current medium volume
• Writing a filemark
• Searching to a filemark
• Searching to a particular block on an FSE medium
