Removing an Expansion Slot Cover
Before installing an expansion board in an empty PCI expansion slot, remove
the metal slot cover.
CAUTION: Always power down the server before installing a non-hot-plug
expansion board.
CAUTION: Do not remove an expansion slot cover unless you are installing a
PCI expansion board. Operating the server without an expansion board or an
expansion slot cover installed results in improper airflow and improper cooling,
which can lead to thermal damage.
To remove an expansion slot cover:
1. Power down the server.
2. Remove the access panel.
3. Press down on the PCI slot release lever above the slot to release .
4. Flip up the slot release lever .
IMPORTANT: For PCI Hot Plug slots, ensure that the green LED above the slot turns off to
indicate that the slot is powered down.
5. Lift the expansion slot cover out of the chassis .
