Online Spare Memory Configurations
With online spare memory support, you can configure primary server memory
for up to 4 GB of ECC SDRAM and configure an additional 2 GB of memory
for online spare memory support. In the online spare memory configuration,
all six DIMM slots are populated with 1-GB 133-MHz ECC registered
SDRAM DIMMs.
In the online spare configuration, banks A and B provide standard memory
functions while bank C is configured for redundancy. If DIMMs in banks A or
B exceed the limit for the single-bit correctable errors threshold as defined for
your Pre-Failure Warranty, the system copies the memory contents of the
failing bank to bank C. The system then deactivates the failing bank and
automatically switches over to the redundant bank.
After installing DIMMs, use RBSU to configure the system for online spare
memory support. See Configuring Online Spare Memory in Chapter 9,
Server Configuration and Utilities, for additional information about enabling
and configuring online spare memory support.
DIMM Installation Guidelines
You must observe the following guidelines when installing additional
memory:
Always install memory in pairs of two identical DIMMs.
DIMMs installed in the ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 server must be
133-MHz registered SDRAM, 3.3-volts, 72-bits wide, and ECC.
All DIMMs installed must be the same speed. Do not install DIMM
modules supporting different speeds.
NOTE: The server ships with DIMMs installed in DIMM slots 1A and 4A.
Install DIMMs into both slots within a single bank. To ease successive
DIMM installation, upgrade memory by installing DIMM pairs into
banks in sequential bank order, starting with bank B.
CAUTION: Use only the Compaq DIMMs supported for your server. DIMMs from
other sources are known to adversely affect data integrity.
