Powering Down the Server
If you are adding hardware options to a new server that is not yet installed in a
rack or work area, install all hardware options before installing and powering
up the server.
If your server is already installed, you must power down the system before
adding non-hot-plug hardware options.
IMPORTANT: Before upgrading components, back up your server data.
To power down the server:
1. Shut down the operating system as directed in your operating system
instructions. This measure enables you to retain system power for use in
performing diagnostic or troubleshooting operations.
