3. Seat the controller in the Smart Array 5i connectors .
4. Twist each of the four anchors one-quarter turn to secure the controller
to the system board

IMPORTANT: Ensure that the controller is seated on both connectors and that all four
anchor pins are secured before cabling the module to connectors or devices. An
improperly installed controller may not be recognized by the system and can result in a
failure to access hard drives.
Cabling the Smart Array 5i Controller
Two Smart Array connectors on the system board are used to cable internal or
external hard drives and tape drives to the controller. This section covers only
standard cabling configurations. For additional cabling options, see Chapter 8,
“Server Cabling.”
