Preparing for Installation
IMPORTANT: If you are installing options before running the server for the first time,
install the Smart Array 5i Controller before installing any other components.
Compaq ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 servers support the installation of an
optional Compaq Smart Array 5i Controller for extended RAID capabilities
without using an expansion slot. Before installing the controller, back up all
data stored on the server.
CAUTION: Back up all data before installing the Smart Array 5i Controller.
Data may be lost during migration from your SCSI controller to the integrated
Smart Array 5i Controller.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that your system ROM is up-to-date. If needed, download the latest
ROMPaq from the Compaq website:
www.compaq.com/support/files
After you have backed up all server data and updated your firmware, if
needed, power down the server and remove the access panel. See “Powering
Down the Server,” in Chapter 3, “Installing Hardware Options.”
Installing the controller requires that you first remove several components
including:
PCI expansion boards
Center wall
NOTE: If you have already installed a redundant fan cage in your ProLiant ML370
Generation 2 server, remove the cage and hot-plug fans before installing the Smart Array
5i Controller.
