Supported Deployment Infrastructure The Deployment Server can be installed on the following operating systems: • Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition NOTE: The operating systems that can be deployed on a target server are listed in the “Supported Operating Systems” section. The NFS server can be installed on Red Hat Linux or SUSE LINUX.
Supported Target Platforms The Rapid Deployment Pack supports deployment to the target platforms listed in Table 1.
Supported Deployment Mechanisms The Altiris Deployment Solution has several mechanisms for deploying target servers. All methods use the Altiris Deployment Agent for DOS. Table 5 displays a matrix of supported target servers and the supported deployment mechanisms available for each server. Preboot eXecution Environment Target servers can connect to the Deployment Server by performing a Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) boot and receiving a boot image over the network.
The default location of PXE or network boot in the boot order varies based on the server and the options installed. For the servers listed in Table 3, PXE or network boot must be placed first in the boot order to support the server. Bootworks Diskette, RILOE, and iLO with Virtual Floppy As an alternative to PXE, target servers can connect to the Deployment Server by creating a physical Bootworks diskette with networking support. When booted, the diskette automatically connects to the Altiris Deployment Server. This diskette can be used in the physical diskette drive, or an image of the diskette can be booted through the Virtual Floppy feature of Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition (RILOE) or Integrated Lights-Out (iLO).

Supported Storage Area Network Connectivity Storage Area Network (SAN) driver support for deploying servers that connect to a SAN and servers that boot from a SAN is provided for the following operating systems: • Windows 2000 Server • Windows Server 2003 • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Update 4 for x86 • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 for x86 • SUSE LINUX Enterprise Linux 9 Service Pack 1 for x86 SAN driver support is specifically for the following servers: Table 6: ProLiant Servers Supporting SAN Drive
Supported Operating Systems The Rapid Deployment Pack jobs in the Altiris Deployment Server Console enable the installation of supported operating systems, using either scripting or imaging, on supported platforms using the supported deployment mechanisms. The following tables display the supported platforms for each supported operating system. The specific platform might support additional operating systems that cannot be installed with the Rapid Deployment Pack. Microsoft Windows NT 4.
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server are supported. These operating systems can be deployed to the platforms listed in Table 8.
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, and Web Edition are supported. These operating systems can be deployed to the platforms listed in Table 9. IMPORTANT: If you plan to perform scripted installations with PXE, refer to Table 4 for important firmware prerequisites. HP strongly recommends that you use the default UNDI driver in your PXE boot images (instead of the NDIS2 driver).
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Microsoft Windows XP Professional can be deployed using only image install to the platforms listed in Table 10. Scripted install is not supported.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES 3 Update 4 for x86 These operating systems can be deployed to the platforms listed in Table 11.
