4 Deploying Windows Server to ProLiant servers
Deploying Windows Server follows the standard SCCM OSD methodology—create a task sequence,
configure the task sequence, and advertise the task sequence to a collection. To simplify the process
of deploying to server hardware, HP provides a wizard to help you create a scripted install task
sequence for deploying Windows Server to ProLiant servers.
To perform a Windows Server scripted install to a ProLiant server:
1. Ensure that the following conditions are met:
• WDS and SCCM are properly configured for use with OSD and PXE functionality.
• A purpose-specific collection exists.
• One or more Operating System Install Packages have been added and copied to
appropriate distribution points.
• The Hardware Inventory Client Agent is scheduled and configured to collect IDMIF and
NOIDMIF files.
• If you are using SNMP for server management, the SNMP read community string is set
in your domain policy.
NOTE: HP recommends not using any system provided collections, in particular the SCCM
2007 R2 All Unknown Computer collection.
2. Create a new task sequence.
To open the wizard, right-click Operating System Deployment→Task Sequences and select
Bare Metal Server Deployment→Create HP ProLiant Deployment Template.
The following options need to be selected:
• In the Server Hardware Configuration group, if PXE is not first in the target server’s boot
order you must select Boot Order and use the default command-line parameters selection.
• In the Operating System Installation group, set Package with Unattend.xml info: to <do
not select now>
NOTE: This dialog no longer supports creating a task sequence that uses a WIM image.
However, the task sequence can be edited later to do so.
