ADDING MAC ADDRESS VENDOR
TRANSLATIONS
3Com Network Director can convert the first six digits of a raw twelve
digit MAC address into a vendor name. You can enable this feature by
checking the Translate MACs option in the General tab of the Tools >
Options dialog box.
Network Director includes many hundreds of built-in translations, but you
can add your own or edit existing ones, by editing the file:
<Installation Directory>\MAC_Addr.txt
Network Director reads this file when it starts. If any errors are found then
an error is displayed, detailing the type and the location of the error in the
file, and the MAC address translations contained within the file are
ignored. Network Director reverts to a safe, backup copy of the originally
installed file until all errors have been corrected.
The format for the MAC_Addr.txt file is as follows:
Each MAC address translation must occupy a single line in the
file.
The format for each MAC address translation is:
<MAC address> <vendor> <description>
where each field is separated by two or more consecutive spaces.
