Key Concepts This section describes the keys concepts of Live Update.
Connection Type 3Com Network Director supports three methods of connecting to the
Live Update server:
■ Use Browser Settings — 3Com Network Director checks the settings
of your default browser and uses the same settings to connect to the
Internet.
■ Direct Connection to the Internet — 3Com Network Director
assumes it has a direct connection to the Internet.
■ Use Custom Proxy Settings — you can specify the proxy settings
that 3Com Network Director should use to connect to the Internet.
Service Packs A Service Pack is an installable software component that keeps 3Com
Network Director and related applications such as 3Com® Router
Manager and 3Com® Switch Manager up-to-date. It provides updates
such as:
■ Latest bug fixes.
■ Day-one management support for the latest 3Com devices.
Live Update Engine The Live Update engine ensures that you download only the updates that
are relevant to you as follows:
■ 3Com Network Director updates — the Live Update engine lists an
update only if it is more recent than the version already installed on
your PC.
■ Latest 3Com Product News — the Live Update engine only
downloads news that you have not already downloaded.
