Discovering a Remote
Site
You wish to discover one of your remote offices so that you can monitor
and manage the important devices at that site from within 3Com
Network Director.
1 You examine your network information in order to identify the remote
site and find that the remote network is divided into three VLANs, with a
subnet associated with each one:
The default VLAN contains the network infrastructure devices,
including a layer-3 switch that switches traffic between the VLANs.
The IP addresses on the subnet associated with this VLAN have been
allocated so that the WAN router, layer-3 switch and other important
devices that you are interested in have been assigned the first 10 IP
addresses on this subnet.
The second VLAN contains end stations, one of which is a database
server critical to your company’s business.
The third VLAN contains NBX telephony solution devices, including an
NBX call processor.
Rather than discovering all three subnets completely, you decide to
discover only the first 10 IP addresses on the subnet associated with the
