Some devices, such as most end stations, cannot be managed directly by
3Com Network Director
and so do not have configurable settings for
numbers of retries and timeout periods.
Specifying Retries and Timeout Periods in the Network Discovery
Wizard
By default the Network Discovery wizard uses the numbers of retries and
timeout periods configured at the whole map level when discovering
subnets on your network.
If you are discovering remote sites where the paths to those sites include
high latency or unreliable WAN links then the whole map configuration
may not be suitable for a successful discovery of these sites. As a result,
you may wish to change the timeout periods or numbers of retries
respectively for the subnets that correspond to the remote sites that you
are discovering.
The numbers of retries and timeout periods can only be altered during a
Network Discovery if you choose the Specify subnets option in the
Discovery Type step of the Network Discovery wizard. This option allows
you to specify the details of the subnets that are to be discovered. The
Add Subnet and Edit Subnet dialog boxes, launched when you
respectively add or edit a subnet in the list of subnets in the Specify
Subnets step of the wizard, both contain a Retry/Timeout information
frame that enable the whole map configuration to be overridden:
