578 CHAPTER 14: BULK CONFIGURATION
Key Concepts The Bulk Configuration feature is designed to help make common
changes to the software configuration of multiple devices in a single
operation. The settings that you wish to administer can be defined by
creating a configuration template to be applied to the devices during a
configuration operation. The devices or ports to which the configuration
is to be applied can be specified by creating a device selection or a port
selection, as appropriate.
Configuration
Tem p lat es
Configuration Templates allow the user to define a specific configuration
that can be applied to a selection of devices or ports. They provide access
to a variety of attributes, grouped by feature, and allow the values of
these attributes to be specified, as required.
All attributes contained in a configuration template are disabled by
default, and it is possible to choose which attributes to configure by
enabling some or all of them, as required. Note that 3Com Network
Director will only attempt to set the specified values for each enabled
attribute, on the selected devices or ports, at the point the configuration
template is applied, and not whilst creating or editing the template.
There are different types of configuration template, and the attributes
that are available in each are dependent on the type of device or port that
the template is used to configure.
Devices that support a similar set of features will typically be supported by
the same configuration template.
There are currently two types of configuration template, one for Switch
Devices and one for Switch Ports, as follows:
Switch Devices — provides access to all of the device-level attributes
that 3Com Network Director is able to configure on supported 3Com
switches.
Switch Ports — provides access to all of the port-level attributes that
3Com Network Director is able to configure on supported 3Com
switches.
Configuration templates can be saved for reuse at a later date. Saved
configuration templates are independent of the map and can always be
loaded regardless of the contents of the current map.
