Creating a new Voice VLAN for 3Com NBX systems
You have added an NBX system to your network and wish to separate the
voice traffic from other traffic by placing it on its own VLAN.
The following changes will cause a temporary outage of your NBX system
while the network is reconfigured.
1 Ensure that the NBX call processor and phones have been discovered in
3Com Network Director and are present in the current map.
2 Launch the Find dialog box by selecting the Edit > Find menu option.
3 Select NBX telephony components in the Find: drop-down menu if it is
not already selected.
4 Select Name in the Search by: drop-down menu if it is not already
selected.
5 Clear the Name: field.
6 Click Find – this will search for all NBX telephony components in your
network.
7 When the search has completed, select an item from within the results list
and press Ctrl+A to select all items in the list.
8 Close the Find dialog box.
9 Select the Device > VLAN > Create a VLAN menu option to launch the
Create VLAN wizard.
10 In the VLAN Name and ID step enter a suitable name and ID for the
VLAN.
11 Click Next to move through the wizard steps. If there are any additional
switches and ports that will need configured in order to propagate the
VLAN across your network then these will be listed in the Additional Ports
step.
12 If the Manual Configuration Required step is displayed then select each
switch in turn, use the Launch button to launch an appropriate
management interface to the device and manually configure the listed
ports to be members of the VLAN you are creating, tagged or untagged
as indicated.
13 In the IP Interfaces step select the Yes radio button to add a route to the
VLAN, and click Add IP Interface to launch the Add IP Interface dialog
box.
