558 CHAPTER 13: VLAN MANAGEMENT
members of at least one VLAN. If this is not the case an error message
will be displayed and you will be prevented from proceeding to the
next wizard panel.
■ If the tagged check box for a particular VLAN is left unchanged, the
tagged membership of the selected ports will not be changed with
respect to that VLAN. If the check box was previously in the checked
and grayed state and is left in this state, those ports that were tagged
members of the VLAN before the wizard was launched will still be
tagged members afterwards, and those ports that were not tagged
members of the VLAN before will still not be tagged members
afterwards.
■ If the tagged check box for a particular VLAN is checked, but not
grayed, when the wizard completes, all of the selected ports that were
not tagged members of the VLAN before the wizard was launched will
be configured to be tagged members of the VLAN.
■ If the tagged check box for a particular VLAN is unchecked when the
wizard completes, all the selected ports that were tagged members of
the VLAN before the wizard was launched will be removed from the
VLAN.
If you add a port to a VLAN, untagged or tagged, and the VLAN does not

3Com Network Director will never delete a VLAN from a switch
completely, even if there are no more ports in a VLAN after the changes
selected in the Edit Port VLAN Membership wizard have been applied to
the switch.
Checking VLAN connectivity
When you click the Next button in the previous wizard stage, 3Com

switches and ports. This wizard stage works in a similar manner to the
corresponding stage in the Create VLAN wizard – see “
Checking VLAN
connectivity” on page 543 for details.
Configuring unsupported devices
If there are any switches selected that 3Com Network Director cannot
automatically configure, the next wizard stage lists these switches. This
