User's Manual
552 CHAPTER 13: VLAN MANAGEMENT
Before attempting to create the new VLAN on the switches, 3Com
Network Director checks the current configuration of each switch to
make sure it matches the data held in the map (e.g. has the VLAN
configuration of the switch changed, have the number of units in a
stackable switch changed). For the Create VLAN wizard to work correctly,
your network map has to be up to date.
If the configuration of any of the switches has changed, 3Com Network
Director will not attempt to create the new VLAN on any switch. The
Create VLAN Summary report will contain an entry detailing the device
that has a changed configuration. In this situation you should re-discover
your network to bring your map up to date before launching the Create
VLAN wizard again.
If the creation of the new VLAN is successful, 3Com Network Director will
create an info severity event in the event system. If the creation of the
VLAN was unsuccessful, 3Com Network Director will create a warning
severity event in the event system. The More Detail dialog box for these
events allows you to launch the Create VLAN Summary report for that
particular operation.
For more information on working with events see “
The Event Log” on
page 319
.
Edit Port VLAN Membership wizard
The Edit Port VLAN Membership wizard guides you through the process
of modifying the existing VLANs on your network. You can add VLANs to,
or remove VLANs from, switch ports.
Launching the wizard
Before launching the wizard, you should select those links and devices on
your network map on which you wish to edit the VLANs. Then using the
right-click VLAN > Edit Port VLAN Membership menu option, or the main
window Device > VLAN > Edit Port VLAN Membership menu option,
launch the Edit Port VLAN Membership wizard.
Ports with no link connected cannot be selected on the network map. If
you wish to modify the VLANs on unconnected ports, these ports can be
selected from within the Edit Port VLAN Membership wizard after it has
been launched – see next section.
