236 CHAPTER 6: VIEWING DEVICE DETAILS
By default, only units and aggregated links are displayed in the tree. To
display ports within a unit you need to expand the corresponding tree
node to view its contents.
To expand a tree node and view the contents, click on the + icon next to
the folder icon.
To collapse a tree node and hide the contents, click on the - icon next to
the folder icon.
To view information on a specific unit, port, or aggregated link, select the
corresponding tree node by clicking on it. This updates the tabbed pane
on the right-hand side of the dialog box.
The Properties dialog box shows the tree only if a single map item is
selected and that map item is a device.

The contents of the Properties dialog box for the various types of nodes
are similar, but there are some slight differences, as highlighted in the
following paragraphs.

tabs.

For a MAC-only device, the Monitoring tab will show No monitoring is
available because 3Com Network Director cannot monitor a MAC-only
device.
Tab Title Contents
General General information regarding the node, such as name, type
and system information.
Custom information, such as Custom Name and Comments
Addresses List of IP and MAC addresses for the item.
Security Community strings used for that device
VLANs VLANs configured on the node, other VLANs the node is part of,
nearest device on the VLAN.
Monitoring Monitoring settings for the node, such as the use of SNMP
traps.
Retry/Timeout Information regarding the retry and timeout settings used by
3Com Network Director when communicating with the node.
