Table 12 Icons Used in the Map
Icon Description
A diamond icon represents a router or a layer-3 switch.
The image within the diamond will indicate the type of
the router or layer-3 switch. For more information see
“
Device Icons” on page 158.
An octagonal icon represents a network infrastructure
device, such as a switch, hub, wireless access point, or
NBX call processor. The image within the octagon
indicates the type of the network infrastructure device.

Devices that form the components of an XRN Switching
Fabric are grouped together into a single XRN Fabric
icon in the map.
A square represents any other discovered device on the
network. This includes end stations, servers and NBX
phones. It also includes devices that could not be
discovered fully, for example when 3Com Network
Director cannot determine an IP address for a device, or
when the appropriate SNMP community strings are not
supplied to 3Com Network Director in the Network
Discovery wizard. The image within the square indicates
the type of the device. For more information see “

A triangle represents the PC that 3Com Network
Director is running on. The image within the triangle
indicates the type of PC. For more information see

Device Icons” on page 158.
