3 On the Specify Subnets pane of the wizard, add the subnets you wish to
discover
If the subnets are all within one router hop of your work station
you can use the Find Subnets button to save having to enter all the
information, go to step 8, below.
If the subnets are not all within one router hop, continue from step
4 below., you should continue from 4, below.
4 Click the Add button to launch the Add Subnets dialog box
5 Enter the information for your first subnet (you must enter at least the
network address and subnet mask of the subnet).
6 Click OK on the Add Subnets pane to return to the wizard. Your subnet
should now appear in the list on the wizard.
7 Repeat 4 to 6 above for your remaining three subnets
8 You can now click Finish on the wizard if you do not wish to change any
of the remaining defaults. Alternatively, continue through the wizard
using the Next button.
Once you click Finish on the wizard, 3Com Network Director will start
discovering your subnets.
One of my subnets is
over a slow WAN link
- can I discover it, and
if so, what settings
should I use?
If you wish to discover a remote subnet over a slow link you may need to
increase the time that 3Com Network Director waits for responses from
your network. The need to do this will become apparent if the Discovery
report lists several of the devices in the subnet as having stopped
responding during a network discovery.
To increase the time that 3Com Network Director waits for responses, do
the following:
1 Launch the Network Discovery wizard (e.g. by selecting Tools > Network
Discovery).
2 On the first pane of the wizard, select the Specify Subnets radio button
and click Next
3 On the Specify Subnets pane of the wizard add the information about the
remote subnet you wish to discover. Click the Add button to launch the
Add Subnets dialog box
4 Enter the address and subnet mask of the subnet, and optionally the
ranges of IP addresses if you wish to restrict the discovery. If you know
