About this guide This guide detailed steps you need to follow to migrate from Qlogic failover/Emulex mulitpulse high availability solution to HPDM multipath solution. The steps mentioned in this user guide can only be applied to migrate the devices supported by HPDM multipath supported arrays. NOTE: This user guide does not describe the steps to be followed to migrate the boot and root devices based on Qlogic/Emulex Multipulse SAN devices.
HP technical support Telephone numbers for worldwide technical support are listed on the HP support website: http://www.hp.com/support/ Collect the following information before calling: • • • • • • Technical support registration number (if applicable) Product serial numbers Product model names and numbers Applicable error messages Operating system type and revision level Detailed, specific questions For continuous quality improvement, calls may be recorded or monitored.
1 Introduction This chapter addresses the following topics: • • • • HPDM Migration Overview What's New Need for HPDM Migration HPDM Migration Prerequisites HPDM Migration Overview HPDM Migration kit is HP released utility for migrating the customer environment using Qlogic failover/Emulex Multipulse high availability solution to HPDM Multipath multipathing solution.
Introduction
2 Using HPDM Migration kit This chapter addresses the following topics: • • • • • Using HPDM Migration kit HPDM Migrating Process Pre-Migration Installing HPDM Multipath Post-Migration Using HPDM Migration kit To install the HPDM Migration kit, complete the following steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Download the HPDM Migration kit from the following HP website at: http://www.hp.com Log in as root to the host system.
NOTE: The script performs backup operation on /etc/fstab file at /var/Migration/fstab.bkup, Volume group metadata files at /etc/lvm/backup directory. The Qlogic/Emulex device information is stored in /var/Migration/dev_info.txt. Installing HPDM Multipath The installation phase installs the HPDM multipath tools. You need to provide the complete path of the HPDM multipath software kit.
3 Recovering from migration Failure If the Migration process exits abruptly, you must perform manual migration steps to get back to get the pre-migration configuration. Refer the Log file saved at: /var/Migration/log/log to find the unmounted file system, deactivated volume group. 1. If HPDM Multipath tools is installed, execute below steps otherwise go to Step 2 Unmount the mount points mounted using multipath devices #umount Remove the multipath device maps.
Recovering from migration Failure
4 Troubleshooting This section describes troubleshooting problems that you might encounter during migrating process. Problem: Failed to unmount the selected devices from the list displayed in step 1 or step 2 during the execution of migration script Possible Cause: Mount point entries are in/etc/fstab file, but the mount points are not being mounted.
