Using Backup Media to Recover from a System Failure
Reloading Your System Configuration
Reloading Your System Configuration
If your most recent system configuration files are from backups, do the following to
retrieve your system configuration:
1. Install your latest system load backup.
2. Start the system. Only the system master volume on LDEV 1 is initialized. Other
volumes must be initialized using VOLUTIL. This can be done with the following set of
commands:
:VOLUTIL
volutil: NEWVOL
volumesetname:membername
LDEV=
nn
The
volumesetname
for the system volume set is MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET. Issue the
NEWVOL command for each member of the volume set. None of the drives can be written
to until they have been initialized. Refer to System Startup, Configuration, and
Shutdown Reference Manual for more detailed instructions.
3. Make any changes to the SYSGEN configuration and reboot the system. (This step is
optional.)
4. Restore your partial and full backups using the KEEP and DIRECTORY parameters of the
RESTORE command. These procedures are described in the following sections.
Refer to System Startup, Configuration, and Shutdown Reference Manual for additional
information.
