13 LOGTOOL
The System and Memory Log Analysis Tool (LOGTOOL) lets you display and manage system
log files and the memory log file. System log files contain information generated by the
operating system. The memory error log file contains memory error information gathered
by the memory error logging process MEMLOGP.
You can request that the operating system keep records of certain users as well as
particular events. To keep a certain type of log, change its status to ON using SYSGEN.
To see specific log records, use the LOGTOOL utility (as explained in the "Operation" section,
below).
Operation
To invoke LOGTOOL enter:
SYSDIAG
DUI > RUN LOGTOOL
For detailed information on any command enter HELP followed by the command name. For
example, to see information about the LIST command, enter:
LOGTOOL> HELP LIST
To display data from a set of system log files:
1. Log on as MANAGER.SYS or with SM, OP or DI capability.
2. List the names of log files currently on your system
before
invoking LOGTOOL:
LISTFILE LOG@.PUB.SYS
3. Invoke LOGTOOL:
SYSDIAG
DUI > RUN LOGTOOL
4. To get data from your
current
logfile enter the following command to close it and open
a new one:
LOGTOOL> SWITCHLOG
