• When a user types a Connect command with a node name for an MPE/iX host, The
RDTC interrogates the DNS (1). If an entry for the MPE/iX host has been entered
for RAFCP, the DNS server replies (2) by providing the IP address of the FEDTC and
the Node Name (NS format) of the MPE/iX host.
• Using the information provided by DNS, the RDTC sends a UDP/IP packet to the
FEDTC (3). This packet contains an AFCP packet with the Node Name (NS format)
of the MPE/iX host and the Node Name (NS format) of the RDTC.
• The FEDTC transmits a probe request using the Host Node name provided by the
RDTC (4).
• The MPE/iX host replies to the probe request and sends the first AFCP packet to be
sent back to the RDTC (5).
• The FEDTC receives the first AFCP packet that contains the Node Name of the
RDTC.The FEDTC interrogates the DNS server (6) using the node part of the Node
Name of the RDTC and its own ARPA domain. The DNS server provides the IP
address of the RDTC (7).
• The FEDTC encapsulates the AFCP packet under UDP/IP and forwards it to the
RDTC (8). An AFCP connection is established between the MPE/iX host and the
RDTC through the FEDTC. Data is exchanged between the MPE/iX host and the
user.
SPCIAL NOTES: The RDTC will first look in its cache table to resolve the address. If it
does not find the information in its cache table, it interregates DNS and stores the
information received in its cache table.
The FEDTC will first look in its probe cache table to resolve the MPE/iX node name. If it
does not find the information in its cache table, it sends a probe request using the node
name provided by the RDTC (retrieved from DNS).
The FEDTC or the RDTC does not always store the resolved addresses in its cache tables
to allow load balancing between Front-Ends.
The following tables list the typical configuration parameters that are necessary to
configure Routable AFCP as shown in the figure D-1 above.
