A Migrating from Previous Releases
This appendix describes the steps for migrating network configuration files to the
current MPE/iX release from previous MPE/iX or MPE V releases or to migrate the
network DTS configuration from PC-based DTC management to Host-based DTC
management.
A utility call NMMGRVER.PUB.SYS is provided to convert your old network configuration
file to the current release format and to migrate the DTCs configured in the PC-based
tree to the Host-based tree of the network configuration file.
The process to migrate from PC-based management to Host-based Management is only
available if you have installed the required patches on your system. You need to perform
the PC to Host-based migration only if you wish to use the new Host-based X.25 and
PAD functionality provided in the patches. See the section later in this appendix for a
description of the process to perform the migration. The section also includes details of
the limitations of this process and actions to take to reconfigure your network
configuration file to help the migration process go smoothly.
NOTE Customers who do not have an existing network configuration file, NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS,
do not need to run NMMGRVER. Instead, they need to create a network configuration file
from scratch. To do so, copy the template file NMSAMP1.PUB.SYS to NMCONFIG and then
modify this network configuration file in NMMGR. These steps are covered in Chapter 5,
“Configuring Serial Devices (for Host-Based Management).” If NMMGR is run on an
unconverted, existing network configuration file, an error message will appear when
entering the DTS subsystem indicating that a version mismatch was found and that
NMMGRVER must be run to convert the file.
MPE/iX customers with an older version of NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS need to run NMMGRVER to
convert their network configuration files to the current MPE/iX format. You need to
migrate to the current version before adding a DTC 72MX to you network configuration.
MPE V customers with an older version of NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS also need to run NMMGRVER
to convert their network configuration file to the current MPE/iX format.
NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS files from MPE V do not have the DTS subsystem, so NMMGRVER will
create a default DTS subsystem for the new configuration file—with one default
configuration for a DTC 48 and one default configuration for a DTC 72MX. Modify this
network configuration file in NMMGR to fit your actual DTS and DTC configuration. These
steps are covered in Chapter 5, “Configuring Serial Devices (for Host-Based
Management).
