Testing the DTC
If the DTC is suspected as the cause, TermDSM can be used to determine the hardware
or software component involved. It also provides DTC dump and reset functions.
CAUTION TermDSM functions described in this section cause all sessions on the DTC to abort.
Data for each session can be lost. Verify that users are logged off before attempting these
tests.
Security level 1 (SM or DI capability) is required for the following functions. For details
on using TermDSM, refer to Chapter 3, “Introduction to TermDSM,” and Chapter 4,
“TermDSM Commands.
The DUMP DTC command writes data to a disk file from the software managers serving all
the ports on the DTC. The dump file can be read by an HP support representative for
detailed diagnosis of software faults. After the dump, the DTC selftest is run
automatically.
The DTC selftest exercises the following: the DTC processor card, the serial interface
cards, and the connector cards. The selftest runs for about 2 minutes. After the selftest,
the DTC is downloaded and reset automatically. If you are running TermDSM at the
console, messages will be displayed informing you of the download.
The selftest isolates faults within Field Replaceable Units (FRU) in the DTC. The faults
are indicated by TermDSM messages and by error codes shown on the DTC’s LED
display. For information on servicing FRUs and reading DTC error codes, refer to the
appropriate DTC Installation and Service Manual for your type of DTC.
