Configuring and Managing Host-Based X.25 Links - Edition 6 (36939-90057)
Migrating from Previous Releases
Migrating your Configuration to Host-Based Management
Appendix A
183
A DTC migrated from the PC is not configured in the PC-based tree
This means that at the time the Host Migration tool is run, there is at least one DTC
migrated from the PC where a DTC does not exist with a matching DTC Node Name in
the PC-based tree of the NMCONFIG file. This situation could be due to the condition
that a DTC managed by the OpenView DTC Manager is configured on another host that
is also configured as PC-based.
For those DTCs that are not configured in the PC-based tree, the migration process will
leave all the TIO ports configured with ldev of (-1) and all PAD ports configured with
ldev of (1) in the Host-based tree. When you run the Host Migration tool, you will see
error message describing the DTCs that have this configuration.
ACTION: If you do want this system to manage this DTC, you must use NMMGR
to assign valid ldev numbers to the TIO printer ports and PAD devices
to successfully validate the file.
A DTC is configured in the PC-based tree that is not migrated from the PC
This means that at the time the Host Migration tool is run, there is at least one DTC in
the PC-based tree where a DTC does not exist with a matching DTC Node Name in the
Host-based tree of the NMCONFIG file. This situation could be due to the condition that
the appropriate DTC was not selected when the PC Migration tool was run, or the DTC
is managed by a different platform.
The Host Migration tool will copy the DTC to the Host based tree as a non-managed DTC
(LAN Address=00-00-00-00-00-00) and assign the default profiles to the TIO and PAD
Ports. An error message will be displayed describing this situation.
ACTION: If you want this non-managed DTC in your configuration. Then no
action needs to be taken to create a valid configuration. Otherwise you
can delete the DTC from the host-based configuration.
Your Host’s Configuration is Currently Host-Based
This section describes the issues to consider if your host is currently configured for
Host-Based DTC Management. You may have one or more managed or non-managed
DTCs. In this situation, there are the following four scenarios to consider. It is possible
that your configuration will have one or more of these conditions. Review the Host-based
configurations in your NMCONFIG file and take the ACTIONs described below to
reconfigure your file to best migrate your configuration.
You Have a Managed DTC
In this case your host has a DTC that is currently configured in the Host-based tree of
your NMCONFIG file and you want to add the DTCs managed by your OpenView DTC
Manager PC to the NMCONFIG file.
ACTION: If you want to keep the configuration of these DTCs run NMMGR and
ensure that the DTC in the Host-based tree has a different DTC name
than the DTC Label on the DTC to be migrated from the PC. Then use
the migration file generated by the PC to add the configurations for the
DTC from the PC.
For those DTCs that are migrated from the PC, there is no DTC configuration from
which to get valid ldev numbers for nailed ldevs. The TIO ports are configured with ldev
of (-1) and PAD ports configured with ldev of (1) in the Host-based tree. Validation will
detect the error.
