Automatic Configuration of DTCs
Automatic configuration provides the capability to add, and configure a new host-based
managed DTC to the HP 3000 system without the need to specify most of the detailed
configuration information. You can initiate automatic configuration using the DTCCNTRL
command at the CI prompt, or from within NMMGR. This section describes how to start
automatic configuration at the CI prompt.
When the new DTC is configured, all serial cards will be configured with nailed direct
connect ldevs using the profile TR10AUTO. You may modify this profile to suit your needs.
The profile TR10AUTO that is provided has the same characteristics as TR10D96.
SNP cards will be configured with a default configuration. This configuration is not
complete. You must use NMMGR to enter data for the Level 1 and 2 screen and the Level
3 screen. No PAD ldevs are created.
On the Level 1 and 2 screen you must enter the line speed for the connection. On the
Level 3 screen you must enter the X.25 card address, Maximum number of PAD
connections, and the Low and High values for the PVCs or SVCs. See sections “Step 9:
Configure X.25 Level 1 and 2” and “Step 10: Configure X.25 Level 3 and Miscellaneous”
in Chapter 3, “Configuring DTCs Step-by-Step,” for details on these fields.
Follow these steps to automatically add a DTC to DTS:
1. Turn on the DTCs power.
2. Invoke DTCCNTRL at the CI prompt with the following command:
:DTCCNTRL FUNC=autoconf
3. The following prompt will appear:
****Make sure your DTC is turned on NOW****
Enter the DTC LAN address in the format of xx-xx-xx-
xx-xx-xx or press RETURN to exit:
First, make sure that the DTC’s power has been turned on. Then, enter the LAN
address of the DTC to be configured. The LAN address can be found on a label inside
the front cover or on the back panel of the actual DTC box. Note that the LAN
address is different from the IP address which is discussed in step 5.
4. DTCCNTRL will create a default DTC node name structured as
DTCXXXX.domain.organization, where “XXXX” are the last four digits of the DTC’s
LAN address and “domain.organization” are taken from the host’s node name.
At the prompt “The default DTC node name is DTCXXXX.domain.organization.
Press RETURN to continue or enter the DTC node name to overwrite
default:” press the
[Return]
key to continue or enter a different DTC node name to
overwrite the default.
5. At the prompt “Enter optional DTC IP address in the format of n.n.n.n or
press RETURN to continue:” enter the optional DTC IP address or press the
[Return]
key to continue. The IP address is used if your HP 3000 is configured as part
of a network and you want the DTC to be able to respond to PING/iX requests.
