Conﬁguring ARPA Domain Name Files

If you are planning to use the domain name resolver for name to IP

address resolution, you will need to conﬁgure a set of ASCII ﬁles on

each node that contain needed information. To conﬁgure these ﬁles, you

use any standard editor to modify existing sample ﬁles according to the

instructions in this chapter.

The following subsections detail:

• How to modify the RSLVSAMP.NET.SYS ﬁle and save it as

RESLVCNF.NET.SYS for use as the domain name resolver.

• How to modify the HOSTSAMP.NET.SYS ﬁle and save it as

HOSTS.NET.SYS for use as the domain name host ﬁle.

• Other ﬁles you can conﬁgure to make additional information

available to the network.
