2 SNA IMF Installation Guidelines

To run SNA IMF on your HP 3000, you must install the product and

conﬁgure both your HP 3000 environment and the host system to support

SNA IMF. As part of the conﬁguration process, you must ensure that the

HP 3000 parameters match those on the host side. The necessary

parameters are described in

Chapter 3 , “SNA IMF Conﬁguration,” in this

manual.

Before you install SNA IMF on the HP 3000, you must do the following

things:

1. Ensure that the modem link between the HP 3000 and the host

operates. If you use HP modems, Hewlett-Packard will help you

verify that these modems work.

2. Conﬁgure a remote IBM 3270 control unit on the host system. This

can involve system generation changes to the host operating system,

teleprocessing subsystem software, and an IBM 37xx front end

processor. Also, you might need to install additional hardware on the

host to support a remote IBM 3270 port. For information on host

conﬁguration, consult the following manuals:

Obtain a copy of the host system generation. You will need this

information later during SNA IMF installation.

3. Have available a host system program that can communicate with a

remote IBM 3270 control unit. You can use this host program to test

SNA IMF.

4. Ensure that the correct SNA link product has been installed.

After you perform these pre-installation tasks, your HP 3000 will be

prepared for SNA IMF installation. Follow the instructions in the

HP 3000 MPE XL Installation and Update Manual or the HP 3000

MPE XL Add-On Manual to install SNA IMF with the MPE

AUTOINST utility.

After you have installed SNA IMF, run NMMAINT.PUB.SYS to ensure

that the AUTOINST utility successfully installed the right versions of

all the necessary software modules.

Your HP representative will perform a minimum conﬁguration of SNA

IMF to verify that the product is working correctly.
